I wouldn't call the Type 30 or Type 35 a great rifle. While they were good rifles they had some issues which is why they were relatively quickly replaced by the Type 38 which was a significant improvement over the Type 30's and 35's. Of course the Type 38 wouldn't exist for another 3 years. So between the Mauser and the Type 30's and 35's, the Mauser is simply the better rifle. Now that said the Type 30's and 35's aren't bad rifles, and Siam probably could have gotten them much cheaper then the Mauser since the Tokyo Arsenal wouldn't have had to tool up to make them, so why didn't they just buy the Arisaka and possibly savings else where? Well it's my personal opinion that it goes back to the self colonization theory that Othais mentioned. In order to maintain their independence Siam was attempting to modernize for the purpose of being recognized a legitimate country in equal standing to European counties. Having western model firearms would help support that image they were trying to convey, and since at that point Japan still wasn't seen a real power by the west, having Japanese model firearms wouldn't.

C&Rsenal

excellent, thank you!

C&Rsenal

Thank you

C&Rsenal

rofl, I didn't even hear myself say it!

C&Rsenal

We'll get there. For now, however, we have to make sure people know what we're doing.

Nicholas Resar

I think in the episode they mentioned that it predated the Arisaka.

Brian Johnson

Oh-boy! A new primer! Bonus, I've never heard of it. (Why didn't they just buy an Arisaka, it's a great rifle. Just one of life's unsolved mysteries.)

Gavin Rea-Davies

I thought that was the great war they were refering to? July 1917 Othias said.

Nicholas Otten

I thought it was known that war were declared mainly meant the Great War.

Guido Schriewer

that dust cover in se asian monsoon mud... good idea! the caliber Iḿ not so sure about. guess it went bang, huh. odd magazin or not.

Blake Kilpatrick

Type 47 carbine graphic shows trigger guard floor plate release, not one forward of floor plate as noted at 34:15. Later 47/66 carbine graphic appears to include noted release. Also, thinking Mae might have meant “sling” instead of “strap” at 1:01:13. Overall, a GREAT episode!

Adam Junemann

I can say I learned about a rifle I only heard bad things about. Now that I have some facts about it I can say it seems like a cool rifle. Thank you for my education, I feel better when I learn something.

Minion

1:06:09 Mae, you say "...Allan Francis..." but his name in text seems to be Francis C Allan. Am more confused than usual.

Charles Adams

Just an observation, I checked three times and can’t see/here where Mae provides a rating on the rifles. I hear where Othais and May discuss the issue with not being able to find the ‘short rifle’/carbine, but no penultimate rating.

Mark Clement

Well that episode was a complete surprise. Great job.

Andrew Smelser

Only issue I've found is that I know nothing of this gun so I'm about to fix that. Good work as usual.

Andrew Smelser

I think they have it up front because some people don't stay until the very end. It's better to get it out of the way ahead of time for those folks who are just going to scrub for shooting footage anyways. I like it where it is tbh. It doesn't bother me.

Anders Patrick Bradley

Only mistake I’ve noticed so far, and it’s a bit of a quibble, is that at 47:52, Othais mentions Thai soldiers were sent into “Burma, Myanmar, and Malaya” Burma and Myanmar are the same country, Burma the colonial name, Myanmar the current, post colonial one. Like French Indochina becoming Vietnam. Pick whichever one you feel more comfortable with. Otherwise haven’t noticed a thing!

Robert

Have you considered not having the disclaimer in the beginning and basically uploading it as a final version. Any time where there are no big issues, you can just make the vid public without the need to re-upload. If you do need to fix it, you can still do it.

Gavin Rea-Davies

38:15 a declaration of war, but no WAR WERE DECLARED?!

C&Rsenal

They do not. She just likes that hat.

C&Rsenal

Yup, I need to start checking those hand-offs.

Gavin Rea-Davies

Took a few goes to work out how to get it to show up on my youtube so I can enjoy in on my TV instead of a tiny phone, but finally managed.

David Herman

Question: does Brownell's pay y'all to get Mae to wear that hat when shooting? If not, be cooler if they were

Jun Kumazawa

Just one criticism: Mae repeats almost exactly what Othias said about the gun just seconds before in the animation portion.

Lucas Holwerda

Thanks

JARED

Mine doesn't have the muzzle cap, unfortunately. But it does have a rolled piece of cloth stored in the stock.

Tiger in man's clothing

If you found an error, report it. That's the point of THIS release.

Cosmic Atrophy

There should be an option to "share". Press that and then pick "copy link". Then copy and paste it into a browser

Lucas Holwerda

Does anyone know how i can adjust video quality in the patreon player?

Will Sanders

I get to enjoy them twice now!

C&Rsenal

Mae Responding: We'll still have to scrap them as the beginning has that floating trial image.

George Hilty

yay!! who needs sleep!! lol

Dan Schneider

I'm sure its great

Mark Clement

and if this is error free? (it’s not). do you scrap this pre-release idea and tempt fate again? (you won’t)
