Found my XS11 service manual. Still looking for another book [personal musings on the bike by a guy who rode one all over the CONUS] on the beast but you'll find one or both in your mailbox before you actually get a chance to get one, I'd guess... 😄 Good hunting!

XJ750 was '80s; it has a gallery btw the intakes ['YICS'] to balance the intakes so the carbs can be more out of balance before the bike demands a retune. There's instructions on the web somewhere on how to fab your own YICS tool [strangely, Yamaha only ever seemed to offer them to dealers] so that you can balance your own carbs... WRT the carb rebuild kit, have you tried Yamaha XS650.com.org.biz? [Sorry, you'll need to google it] Vendor specialized in doing repop parts for the legendary vertical twin Yammie XS650 and some of that may carry over to other models. Carbs didn't really change that much in the '70s until the CV models came along...

For the record, there never was a Yamaha XS1100; it was called the "XS Eleven." Fun fact: Yamaha did a preproduction release of it for the moto press and the bikes were all marked up as "XS1000;" all the journos were impressed by it at the time, but were a bit butthurt over it when they found out later it was actually an 1100 [1054cc, but whatevs...] 😄 I'm in the middle of moving; I'll see what I can do about finding any of my old XS11 stuff & send it to you. I was a member of the XS11 forum back in the '90s; good times, great bike, but ABSOLUTELY should have one of the old aftermarket fork braces for it if you can find one... It's a big, heavy beast and those 32mm? 35mm? fork stanchions were too wispy for spirited riding; it tended to get squirrelly when pushed even only a little on a mtn road. Oh yes, you'll only get ~ 32mpg at best and you'll need to sync the carbs about once a month if you use it as a daily rider. Never understood why they went out of sync so fast, it doesn't really have a lot of vibes, but they are thirsty beasts even in best tune.

I own two classic Japanese bikes. 78 Yamaha Xj750 Special and a 84 Virgo 1000. One runs beautifully, but no brakes. The other is all there, but can't get a full carburetor rebuild kit. Point being, I feel your pain.

I had a Yamaha XS 400 Special that I had to do carburetor work on. The first time it took me hours. Fast forward to like the 5th time, I could get them off, do what I had to do and get them back on in like 30 minutes.
