DraconianGreed

Huh so Cadence hasn’t already achieved Lovecraftian/Cthulhu levels of eldritchness in her soul...

Senjo

Yup, I agree, some chapters are massive info dumps and basically nothing happens, while others move too quickly and skip over a bunch of stuff.

Deinos

Hah way to make an entrance, let the damsels faint in droves. I liked the explanation about her instincts stunting her thinking, even if that didn't come exactly through in the first person pov. But I know it'd be hard to do so without becoming boring.

Zackman2k12

That actually makes sense\

Keifru

Thats...not the point I was harping on? Alt-PoV for how outsiders perceive events can be nice. But exposition straight at the audience is rough on 'suspension of disbelief' and comes at the cost of immersion of a living, breathing world. Granted, tackling this problem successfully is a thing a standard isekai mucks up most of the time, nevermind a multi. Usually its lampshaded by having the PoV char be very young and theyre in a school of some sort. That gives ample justification to dictate straight at the audience because the character is learning this for the first time too. Also something in urban fantasies if someone falls past the masquerade or somesuch (Hell, the Harry Potter series in a nutshell)

Osprey36

So normally I would agree with you in that a story should follow the main character mostly and have asides for extra context. In this current arc however I don't think that would work well since Cadence doesn't know any of the context that anything is happening in. Like with the priest just now, all she knows is someone came out, looked at her, and then literally dropped dead. She wouldn't know the importance of such a thing in the slightest. Add this onto the fact she doesn't know the language yet and she's running around pretty much blind.

Toasty

Even if she looks at sb who is over a hundred years old, considering that hrr ability only lets her know of the secrets of a person, the actual amount of information should be just a small fraction of the total life experience. In Cadence's case her whole past lifes should be considered secrets, which mean a huge amount of information that just got crammed in the poor pristesses head :D

Chymor

What I don't like about this chapter is how much of an info dump it is. Rei knows all about the priestess, the S-rank adventurer etc and we get it as boring summaries in her head. The action itself is kinda fun, but it's hidden in info dumps to explain their society. Can we not learn this slower as Cadence learns it?

Jonathan Timm

Imagine being forced to relive all of her past lives in an instant

Claus Jørgensen

and she gets missing linbs and organs back too :P

Claus Jørgensen

the elf is like 131 and we have no idea what and how much she gets from her ability.

Solarlancer

she saw the truth about cadence and well it's not the kind of knowledge that a mortal should have

Sean Wilner

To be clear, I'm not talking about the teasers/lectures at the start of each chapter. Those are excellent for world building and don't really "give away the farm" when it comes to system specifics since they reflect the common knowledge of denizens of the world Cadence is in.

Sean Wilner

I was a big fan of this chapter! The only thing I implore you to do is to cut back on the exposition of the author notes for world building. We can learn about the system and circumstances governing each life at the same time and pace that Cadence does. From a practical standpoint, it's harder to write yourself into a corner when you leave the specifics more ambiguous anyways!

foldedcorners

I'm really liking the PoV swap. Cadence is fun on all, but her life this time around has been frankly.. ridiculous. From a frog to a wyvren is an odd circumstance. This world seems like it's going to have a heavily religion/god influence, so I doubt Cadence can stay anonymous from this world's pantheon for long. Luckily it looks like the god of truth won't be able to spill her secrets anyways :P That's a fun twist of fate

K Hilliard

Way to drop a truth bomb on the priestess.

Keifru

I do have one concern, is that with it being a lot of short stories/viginettes with the nature of her mercurial lives, the 'expositing at the audience from the mind of a character' can feel rough. Since the worlds change, and the circumstances/[Systems]/cultures vary wildly, I can very well see it possibly being an energy/word sink that could get repetitous. IE "Okay now we have to take the time to talk about how the gods interact in this other world for a few paragraphs". All that being said, I'm still quite enjoying the ride. I hope my rambling makes sense/is useful- I'm a shite writer so all I can do is consume and ponder.

Kyle

Great chapter. I don’t see anything wrong with it in the immediate sense. Is this making future chapters harder to map out?

Nimps

4 days to get to full health just by doing nothing and not even taking into account her healing from eating is FAST and awesome!

Nimps

I like the chapter too. What was it that you were concerned about? Although I am not a fan of multiple alternate POV chapters I do like the occasional one as it shows a different perspective if that's what you were concerned about? Also thanks for clarifying what you meant by she weakened herself, I was confused as to why you would say that now that she had access to greater bloodlines so to speak. I think the investment is worthwhile if she can live long enough she should evolve into something very very powerful. Plus some of those basic traits from early on can make a massive difference late game. Like the healing one, 1% is 1% no matter how much health you have, and if an evolution grants the same trait depending on what you decide, it may or may not combine into a stronger version. Up to how your system works with duplicates I guess.

Jeff091

thanks

reji

Probably just mundane data overload: Cadence lived more than one life, and so know more than your ordinary specimen secrets. As royal, as servant of noble, as earth-based human (tech), as someone lived through few Systems, as reincarnator, as friend of Podi.

reji

She broke the priest, lol. It's fun. Left chapter as it is, chapter is better than average

lala jhones

So Cadance can tell people about her ability to reincarnate, but whatever the priestess saw was probably past the okay zone for "Podi."

Osprey36

Thanks for the chapter, I don't think there's any inherent problem with the chapter though. It gives a bit of insight into the gods of this life, and also hints that Cadence is outside if the purview of these gods if that priest's reaction was anything to go by. At least that's what I think, it could also be something like in the Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull where the Russian woman fries her brain from too much information.

Nim

Not sure what you don't like about it, but I like this direction, actually!

Alphafenrir401

YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH

Ethan Norton

I don’t see anything wrong sith it tbh

Kevin Caffrey

Local deities can’t handle a small glimpse of Podi

Zackman2k12

Thank you!

Lee Singleton

thanks for the chapter, the problem always seem to be that it over too soon :-)

Patrick S.

Thanks for the chapter 😊
