Chapter One Hundred Thirty-One
Finality In Mundanity
Fall of Autumn, Week 5, Day 8
“What’s this, then?” I said, deflecting and looking at the final chest.
It held what looked like logs. Sir Limrick opened his mouth to respond, and I activated a Skill.
[Inspect]
[Whisher Log, Tier 3, Uncommon]
[A dense log made up of the corpse of a Whisher Blight. It contains trace amounts of mana from its origin plant. Suitable for use in weapons and armor.]
Oh, they are logs.
Gristle cleared his throat. “My Lady.”
I blinked, looking around. Sir Limrick looked amused, as did the other knights, but Gristle had an exasperated quirk to his mouth.
“What?” I asked.
“I believe we discussed that earlier this week.” He tutted.
I huffed a laugh. “Yeah, okay, sorry for being rude with [Inspect]. Continue with what you were going to say.”
>It’s odd to see a butler call a Light of Dawn out on their behaviour.< Eunora chimed in.
I let a small smile climb onto my face. It’s nice. It means they see me as more than just a member of the Dawn. They see me as someone they can talk to as equals. As friends.
>...I wouldn’t go that far.<
I mentally whacked away Eunora, before looking back at Sir Limrick.
“It’s fine, my Lady. I can likely tell you more than your Skill, though,” he said pointedly. I didn’t have it in me to be embarrassed or anxious. Not with Sir Limrick—or even Gristle. “This chest contains all salvaged bits of the Whisher Blight. Its wood is known for absorbing mana, and it isn’t limited to simply nature mana, either. It can take in any type of mana. It is known that if a specific element aligned mana or a specific type of Mana Pearl is infused into the wood, then it can develop a Skill of its own.”
I ran a dark nail over the wood, flexing my hand to try and dig into the bark. It didn’t break through.
“Interesting. So, you’re saying, for example, if darkness-aligned mana was infused into the wood it would create a Skill for the wood?” I hummed lightly, almost innocently.
One of the other knights covered a cough that sounded suspiciously like a laugh.
“Indeed, my Lady. In fact, the wood is also known to alter its appearance based on such mana—though darkness-contracted mages are too rare to have documented effects on Whisher wood.”
Picking up one of the logs, the spatial enchantment rippled and the chunk of wood expanded to at least the length of the chest. I had to quickly use both hands to balance it.
“Oh, there’s more than I expected,” I mused. “Does the Skill it receives change depending on if it is processed before or after the infusion?”
Sir Limrick nodded. “Very astute. Yes, it does. The master weaponsmiths in Fellan have experience with Whisher wood, so they can make whatever you wish.”
I pursed my lips. “There’s loads in here, right?”
“Enough for a dozen weapons at least.”
“Good. I think I’ll wait for most of it, but I know I’ll want a full set for the Academy. A sword, daggers, and a spear.” I hummed. “And a few figurines.”
“Figurines, my Lady?” Sir Limrick questioned, his brow furrowing.
“Yeah, I have a list of sixteen, actually. They don’t have to be too large—just the size of my fist. I want them for my mantle.”
Around me, the spirits rippled in excitement.
“Brilliant!” Noir chirped.
“It’ll be wonderful,” Haze agreed.
“I’ll happily infuse it myself.” Shade laughed.
Looking around, I felt at peace. I felt as if I could grow here, in Fellan. Grow into a new person—one not nearly as haunted by my past self. One who could acknowledge elsewhere but was not consumed by it. One who could hear her name called and not flinch at the Dawn in it. One who was more than the girl she’d destroyed upon arrival.
I felt as if I could become the true God of Nora here.

Well, now of course something will happen. But I believe Nora will grow and learn to overcome it all. I really hope her mother doesn't decide to recall Nora home, though. I like it here for her

Right I guess with this bit of business finished up we are at the end of book 3. The next chapter will be the epilogue, maybe giving us some perspective from the 43rd or Mallorica reading a report with whatever information she asked for. Maybe a view from the Divines, though Brel and Grel shouldn't be interfering just yet. They said one lunar year no interference right? 2 seasons worth, so around spring? Then the next book begins with it's new arc, training with Cthari and the new whisher figurines and weapons.
