One thing I wanted to say about Junpei's mother, there's a bit of context you maybe didn't know. A lot of the districts in Japan consider high school as higher learning, and it's not actually required education. Some kids/families aim for factory or dock work and don't attend or finish high school, and those who do finish high school are often doing so to aim for high scores on the final exams to get better chances of acceptance into college. Basically my point is it wasn't that bad that she told Junpei he doesn't have to go to school, the whole reason that scene was written was because Junpei was bullied so much he was on the edge of killing people, so his mom being understanding and letting him stay home was meant to be an act of kindness and compassion. It's supposed to add to the sympathy for the single mom trying her best before she ends up getting killed.
