This movie was a video store classic. As a child I was terrified by the box art. And as you suggest, when I saw the film as an adult (in my 20s) it was a let-down felt even though I kind of knew as a kid it was something exploitive. The funny thing is that if it wasn't for the poster it wouldn't be a major let down. It is a film with an actual attempt at an original plot and it has enough budget to do some things. Unfortunately it is pretty dumb. The title draws an immediate connection to WarGames, a film which also had Maury Chaykin. I have to wonder if the film was changed significantly to have a more "WarGames" like beginning because it would explain the timeline if it originally started in the standard post-apocalypse. The movie was shot a few months after WarGames was released.
