Lena had fallen into several new habits after her most recent fight with Kara — the first of which was her tendency to wake up in the morning and make her tea just the way Kara liked it, with two lumps of sugar and a heavy pour of milk. The second habit was to check Kara’s dating profile on the UpSwipez app a few times per day in between tweaking her algorithm, or waiting on Lex to call. The last and most damning habit involved lying alone in her bed at night and rubbing herself to the memory of Kara giving her the ultimatum.
That strong tone of voice Kara used should have only angered Lena, but unfortunately the confrontation also aroused her to the point she could barely concentrate. She was determined not to let Kara off the hook so easily and to prove to the alpha and all of her friends that her intentions were as pure as always, but Lena’s progress had been slow and her libido inexhaustible. Without even being in heat, Lena was radiating some serious sexual energy and whenever she ventured out, she attracted the attention of others. She chalked it up to being a woman on a mission and continued to work towards her goals, and yet a small selfish part of her hoped that it would bring Kara around.
To her utter surprise, one afternoon it did.
Lena came through the door to her apartment and had no sooner put her purse down than she spotted Supergirl on her balcony, looking down over the city and letting her hair whip in the breeze.
While the Super was distracted, Lena slipped in behind her bar and emptied the rest of her bottle of single malt Scotch into a tumbler. She squinted at Kara through the window, confused by how different she seemed in those moments when she was unguarded.
Kara appeared to have a sneer on her face and a peculiar aloofness about her that worried Lena.
Lena took a few more swallows of her drink, then fixed the cuffs on her Reiss Lily blouse and straightened the vest she wore over it. She approached Kara cautiously, opened the glass door to her balcony and waited to be noticed.
“Come to lecture me again?” Lena asked in a low voice, softer and sweeter than intended as her eyes shined with hopefulness.
How could she begin to tell Kara that all she wanted was for her to acknowledge that there was chemistry between them, that their friendship had always felt like much more than that?
Lena would forgive if only Kara said the right things—if only Kara demonstrated that she knew the betrayal had cut so much deeper coming from her. If Kara was capable of understanding why Lena still hurt from it, then she would be more ready to overlook some of the lies.
She was on the verge of saying something about all of it when Kara turned, just enough so that Lena could see the long blonde hair around her face — no bangs, none of the bright red lipstick she had taken to wearing as of late.
“Kara?” Lena whispered in a startled voice and took a step back towards into her apartment, pivoting to run just as Supergirl grabbed her arm.
This was unquestionably Kara, but not her Kara, and she screamed as the Super lifted her up with no effort at all and carried her into the living room.
“You’re not Supergirl.” Lena accused the imposter immediately when she deposited her on the white leather sofa. “Where is she, what have you done to her?” Lena demanded, her scowl a perfect mask that hid the fear that spread through her, until it permeated the air, pungent and sharp.
The imposter sniffed the scent and tipped her head to the side with a slow smirk. She let her gaze trickle down Lena suggestively, and then she shrugged as though bored. “First of all, I am Supergirl,” She announced proudly, an arrogant slant to her lips as she stood in front of Lena. “You can think of me as the Kryptonian you deserve.”
Lena opened her mouth, then closed it again as she tried to unpack that statement.
Kara seemed undeterred as she carried on, her hand lifting to count off as she spoke, “Second, I’m not going to hurt you - well, not unless you ask nicely. I know how you like it rough.” The new Kara whispered, and Lena felt goosebumps rise along her pale skin as she swallowed thickly.
“Why are you here?” Lena asked, a tremor in her voice as she observed this Super.
Her mind was buzzing at the clear lecherous interest that this Kara had for her and she couldn’t help but react to it, wrong as it was to feel anything. She longed for Kara, and her mind and body couldn’t distinguish between the woman in front of her and the one her heart had latched onto, and her pulse thumped wildly, a mixture of fear and desire that clouded her better judgement.
“I wanted to see you.” The imposter declared, and sat down beside Lena, so close that their thighs were pressed together and the scent of the alpha wrapped seductively around her. She reached out to clasp Lena by the jaw lightly and brought her face closer to look into her eyes curiously. “You’re different,” She mused, her thumb ghosting over Lena’s lower lip with the kind of familiarity that shook Lena to her core.
Lena shot off the couch before she did something ridiculous and flipped open the watch Kara had given her for emergencies. She pressed the button and spun to face the imposter with a victorious glint in her eyes, expecting Kara to burst in any second. When it didn’t happen, Lena pushed the button again, then again, as the imposter laughed.
“Guess she’s doing something better than flying over here.” The imposter announced with fake pity on her face. “While we wait, why don’t you sit down and tell me why the mere sight of me on the balcony before got you wet, when you supposedly hate me?”
