“Why would you wish this on yourself?” Kara uttered and strode to the chair simply to set her ledger and quill down. “I cannot remain home much longer, especially after this attack. Though I confess I would enjoy nothing more than spending every waking moment ravishing you during your heat.
Lena’s sullen face must have revealed much about her state of mind, because Kara laughed when she appeared unhappy.
She had hoped that extending her heat would be a reason to appoint others to handle Kara’s responsibilities in town and give them more time to spend alone with one another.
“I feel a certain joy when you’re with me.” Lena’s eyes strayed down to where their bodies met and she touched Kara’s face as she uttered the truth with a begrudging pout, “I don’t want this to end. You have been good to me, and I like receiving all of your attention.”
For a precarious second the silence in the office seemed to be an answer all of its own, but then it shifted as Kara caught her by the chin and tipped her head up to rumble, “If I didn’t know better, I’d be inclined to believe that you might actually care for me after all.”
Lena narrowed her eyes at the amusement on the alpha’s face, but Kara hid her smile all too soon. “I will fetch the tincture, but I will not be staying home to tend to your needs during the day,” She intoned seriously. “If you feel able to endure your urges until I can relieve them in the evenings, then you may take it, but if you try to come to town in such a state, I will be forced to lock you in your bedroom for your own safety.”
Lena huffed at the compromise and remained quiet as she fixated on the warning. It would be terrible, of course, to force the alpha’s hand in disciplining her if she took the tincture with the desire to show up at her office. Poor Nia would be caught in the middle yet again, but Kara was honorable and Lena doubted the alpha would take her ire out on anyone else bar her. She could almost feel the smarting of her backside already, and her cunt squeezed in anticipation around Kara’s knot and forced another jet of seed into her hot canal.
Time lost all sense of meaning, until inevitably Kara’s knot softened and she finally withdrew her cock.
Lena bit her tongue to stop a whine of discontent, but her scent was unfortunately desperate and the alpha could smell her need.
Kara didn’t draw attention to it as she fixed her pants and tucked in her shirt with precision. She lifted Lena’s dress and turned to her with kind eyes before insisting, “Allow me to help you into your dress and escort you to wait with Nia. I need to deliver coin to the carpenter. It shouldn’t take more than a moment, and then I’ll take you home, where I can soothe your heat privately.”
“I don’t see why I can’t accompany you to pay the man, but I suppose if it’s a quick errand, I can agree to wait patiently.” Lena sat with elegance on the desk and waited for Kara to slide her dress on over her shoulders.
Her heat had made her much more idle about her clothes and appearance, and it was Kara who smoothed the wrinkles from her skirts and then opened a drawer to lend her an ivory handled brush. She dragged the bristles through the tiny ringlets and curls that formed about her neck, and finally put her hat on after fixing the pretty ribbon at the top.
“Since you have been so agreeable for – oh - these last forty-eight hours, I have a present for you.” Kara’s jovial way of teasing her was becoming an enjoyable part of their marriage, though Lena narrowed her eyes again at the alpha in pretend dislike.
“It’s been more than forty-eight hours, surely,” She complained and tried to remember if she caused any bit of trouble since the first moments of her heat. “Besides, I’ve pleased you much more than I’ve aggrieved you and that has to count for something.”
Kara’s laugh was bold and went on a little too long for Lena not to take offense, but at the end of it she pulled out a small decorative box and lifted the lid. It was a piece of finery from a local shop—a hat pin with rubies and rhinestones, and the distinct shape of a small fencing sabre.
Lena saw it as the weapon it was and picked it up in curiosity. “You bought me this in case I need to stab someone,” She blurted and a perverse little smile of appreciation curled at her lips.
“It’s for your defense, as a very last resort if you find yourself alone, or in a position where you must defend your honor,” Kara clarified with a severe frown and a determination to cut her mirth short.
Lena allowed the alpha to slip the pin into her hat and she tidied the ends of her hair again and tucked them up so she would look smart.
“There, now it doesn’t seem like we spent the last few hours indulging in complete debauchery,” Lena smirked.
She stepped up to kiss Kara’s cheek affectionately, but her mouth seemed to skip its intended landing place and she ended up locking lips with the alpha. Their tongues caressed and she experienced a jolting recognition that her emotions were becoming as tangled in the marriage as her hair. Gasping from it, she separated from Kara and backed herself towards the door before she could overburden her mind by naming the feeling.
“I’ll go to Nia,” She announced and laughed uneasily as Kara gathered up her things and took ahold of her arm to escort her.
They found Nia standing in front of one of the other shops, where ladies’ finery was sold.
Lena squeezed at her alpha’s hand in parting and then watched Clark disappear down another lane to pay the carpenter.
“I did the shopping,” Nia mentioned with a small wave at all of the parcels placed on the bench outside of the counting house. “You’ve been having so many cravings lately, and I purchased more of the tea that helps when you have stomach upset.”
“Oh, thank you.” Lena patted the beta girl on the arm with genuine fondness. She knew she had caused Nia quite a bit of trouble and she wanted to make amends for it.
“Listen, Nia, I owe you an apology,” She uttered. “I should have listened to you the other day when you told me about Clark’s way of conducting himself. You were right and I’m sorry.”
“You needn’t worry about that,” Nia reassured her and chuckled as she moved aside for others to pass. She rummaged with the parcels and Lena eyed the crowd that was still chatting away and regarding her every so often with curious glances.
There was hardly any standing room and Lena did what she thought logical and stood aside. In her distraction while watching for Kara’s return, she didn’t even notice the man who stepped nearer, at least not until he began sniffing the air around her with interest.
He made a soft grunt near her ear, and Lena balked at the warmth of his breath as he whispered, “Quite the change in you.”
She glanced over her shoulder to glare at the man, his pungent aroma that of a beta, and grimaced when he moved even closer.
“You must have mistaken me with another. I don’t know you sir,” Lena muttered softly and then turned to Nia, who was still fussing with the parcels.
That didn’t seem to deter him, because Lena felt his feet toeing at the hem of her dress and he taunted her under his breath, “Well, I know you. The town hellion, but you’ve become little more than a harlot. I can smell your cunt from here.”
Shock robbed Lena of her tongue and her face burned with anger as she reached for Nia, who thankfully saw the stranger for what he was and rose from the bench.
“I insist that you step back, sir,” Nia uttered in her stead. “It’s indecent for you to be so close.”
He ignored Nia, who linked her arm with Lena and pulled her away, but the man followed close behind to raise Lena’s skirts out of sight, flashing her ankles as he murmured aggressively, “Bathed in seed and yet still begging for more. Why, if all it took to tame the belligerent shrew was a small prick, half the town would have given you it.”
Lena snapped out of her speechless state with a gasp and found her fingers pulling the hat pin free as she turned to face the scoundrel. “I’ll give you a small prick.”
The man raised his hands up, aware that people were beginning to gawk, and played to the crowd by announcing, “That’s not language befitting a young lady like yourself. I appreciate that you’re in heat, but I will not allow you to make such advances. Perhaps your husband shouldn’t leave you unattended if you’re prone to soliciting favors from others.”
Lena might have hesitated if not for his attempt to publicly tarnish her reputation.
The thought that his talk could upset Kara and that the alpha might believe the stranger’s lies was too much for her to bear. She stuck the hat pin into his arm in the most sensitive spot accessible. It pierced him cleanly and she let it remain for a second before pulling it back.
The vulgar beta let out a yowl of shock, “You wench! You cut me!” He appeared surprised that she was bold enough to fight back, and because he was still hovering so close, Lena stood poised to do it again.
The wound already bled through his cream colored tunic and it seemed much more of a dramatic hurt because of it.
Two of the town’s most reputable alphas observed the commotion and came over to inspect the man’s arm.
“He was rude to me,” Lena muttered in her own defense, pathetic as it was to try to justify her actions when neither of the alphas had overheard the entire conversation.
She knew how it seemed to everyone who had witnessed the stabbing, and when she noticed Clark parting the crowd, she studied her feet and wondered if her rash behavior would bring an end to all they shared together during her heat.
The acrid stench of anger enveloped Lena, and she pressed her lips together to stifle the submissive whine when the alpha’s hand wrapped around her throat to force her eyes up.
She feared that Kara harbored a hatred towards her when the alpha’s rage spilled out in a snarl, yet the alpha did not strike her and Lena made great effort not to plead, lest the townspeople think Clark was soft to her sway.
“Clark, it seems your omega assaulted this gentleman,” The alpha Mr. Lord noted with a touch of disdain as he held the man’s arm out as proof.
The slick crimson stained the beta’s sleeve and he had the audacity to pretend the pain he suffered warranted a howl to draw a crowd around them.
“Even in heat, she dishonors herself and makes a mockery of our laws,” Mr. Edge hissed, his scorn shifting from Lena as he stepped closer to Clark to hold him personally responsible for Lena’s outburst. “And here I thought you’d be the right alpha to keep this defiant little bitch in line, but it appears even Clark Danvers can’t control her volatile nature.”
Murmurs began through the gathering, speculation that perhaps Clark was unfit to handle such a wild omega, yet nothing came close to the warning rumble of Clark’s growl when he turned to Mr. Edge and stepped so close he practically pressed into him. “I will determine what happened here and act accordingly, but if you question my dominance again, I’ll be sure to demonstrate it fully.” Clark informed him with fierce, unwavering steel in his voice. “On you.”
Edge looked perturbed by the threat, and though anger flashed in the alpha’s eyes, it barely reflected the fury that filled Clark’s face. “I’m not your enemy, Clark.” He finally snarled, but when Clark refused to move as if ready to make good on his vow, Mr. Edge relented by lowering his gaze and taking a step back to show submission.
Clark turned his full attention back to Lena, his hand still coiled around her throat, though Lena assumed it was more for appearance than intimidation as the alpha’s grip wasn’t nearly as biting as it could have been. “Tell me exactly what happened, or I will have Mr. Edge fetch me a switch to strike the truth out of you.”
“That man approached me.” Lena stated in a harsh whisper and lifted her head back without struggling against her alpha’s hold on her. “He called me a harlot and told me he could smell my arousal. Nia asked him to step back, because he was standing too close and touching my skirts. He refused to listen, and then suggested that half of the town would have mated with me if they had known all I needed was a prick.” She over-enunciated the word despite the vulgarity, and then grit her teeth together in frustration.
It upset her to have fallen into such a trap, and her scents were meek instead of proud like when she had previously broken other town rules. She squeezed her eyes shut to stop them from watering and herself from appearing weak, and then glared at the alphas who would judge her.
“I did nothing wrong,” Lena argued and glanced away to await a punishment she suspected some of the alphas longed to give her.
As Clark held his tongue to observe the emotion on Lena’s face, the beta drew attention to himself by shouting, “Everyone heard how she tried to proposition me, but I have more integrity than that.”
That caught all of Clark’s attention and he unclasped Lena’s throat with the subtlest caress to the underside of her jaw. Then Clark turned on the irate beta, who appeared to vibrate with a mixture of panic and forced rage.
“Do you?” The calm hostility in Clark’s tone spoke of danger and he stalked forward with his chin raised to regard the man with contempt. “Mr. Edge, have you ever known a married omega to lust after a beta while in the throes of a heat?”
“I can’t say that I have.” Mr. Edge admitted, his narrowed eyes locked on the beta as the townsfolk echoed how strange it would be for an omega to seek a beta to soothe her heat, especially when she was already bound to an alpha.
“What of you, Mr. Lord?” Clark asked, the scent of his pheromones laced with malice as he stared the beta down with a glare. “Have you ever encountered a claimed omega who wanted an inferior male?”
“It’s not my fault you married a tramp who would give it to anyone who looked her way!” The beta spat, but he quaked where he stood as the three alphas encroached on him.
Clark advanced with a slow, sinister growl and without warning snared the beta by his throat and squeezed tight enough to make him sputter for breath.
“Gentlemen,” Clark intoned as if striking up casual conversation, “As you may have noticed, I’ve been the target of someone’s cowardice. Several of my properties were damaged overnight. I suspect someone put the fool up to this.”
“He seems to have sprung a leak,” Mr. Lord noted with a smirk as the sharp scent of fear was punctuated by a steady and noisy trickle that pooled around the beta’s shoe. Several onlookers pointed at it, and the public opinion turned on the man as they deemed him weak and untrustworthy.
“I’m willing to accept that as confirmation of guilt.” Mr. Edge asserted, his gaze flicking back to Clark to gauge his reaction before he stated viciously, “If you hold no objection, I’d like to bring him before the council to speak of his crimes. It seems he’s forgotten his place.”
“See that he remembers it.” Clark growled and released his hold on the beta, who gulped at air and let out a pathetic snarl of protest when Mr. Edge and Mr. Lord caught him by the arms to drag him off without another word.
Lena didn’t wait to be told that she should get into the carriage that was waiting on them. She dashed away the minute the alphas came to their verdict.
It might have been hasty of her, but she felt like she might cry and desired to conceal her sensitive fragrance from others. As it was, her stomach churned from the conflict and the sickening pheromones of the disgraced beta.
Her nausea abated a little when Kara entered the carriage, still very much in the mood of Clark.
Lena had every intention of remaining calm, and she sat passively with her hands in her lap until the carriage began to move. She might have stayed seated like that, but her eyes wandered and she recognized quite suddenly how much she wanted to go to Kara.
Lena flung her arms around Kara’s shoulders and buried her nose in the alpha’s neck.
Kara was strong, powerful and had all of the traits that their society prided alphas for having. Alphas were never expected to be nurturing or capable of giving comfort, yet there was no denying it was what Lena sought from her mate when she latched onto Kara and fought the vulnerability that stuck in her throat.
Lena wouldn’t ask for it, wouldn’t shame Kara by requesting it, and so it shocked her when she felt the alpha stroke her back with tenderness.
“You’re safe now,” Kara whispered, her chin resting atop Lena’s hat to allow her to nestle closer to her chest. “They will deal with him, and I will always protect you.”
“I thought you might believe him,” Lena admitted with a heartbroken whimper and quiet gasps that threatened to become cries. “Everyone in this town despises me and I didn’t care about that before, but I don’t want you to ever despise me.”
She breathed a little easier as Kara’s hold on her tightened and the alpha pressed their foreheads together to look her in the eye.
“I would never,” Kara swore, her thumb tracing a lone teardrop down the side of Lena’s cheek as she confessed, “In public I must conduct myself how they expect I should. Even if it seems that I believe the worst, you must understand that I will always trust you over them, no matter how awful it may look.”
Lena might have wept had Kara not quieted the beginnings of a whine by pulling her closer. The protective embrace soothed the distress within Lena.
“In time public opinion of you will change,” Kara insisted in a whisper that calmed Lena’s shudders. “Now more than ever, it’s important that you begin to socialize with other omegas. You may not consider them friends, and I will not pressure you to think of them as such, but even acquaintances can be beneficial. There is a hunting party that I must attend at the end of the week. The alphas’ wives always gather together. I’m going to propose I host it this time, so you feel at ease in your surroundings.”
“I would find it much more preferable if we were both to stay home, considering it was that same hunting party that found me when I was living outside the law in the forest,” Lena replied, but she could see that Kara would not be moved on the matter.
She detested the idea of sitting down to tea with anyone and making idle chat. In the past when her mother forced her to attend such events, she had offended omegas who were excited to be married or had nothing to say except to talk of their husbands. Lena never expected to be in such a position herself and she felt bile rise in her throat from it.
“Fine,” She sighed and ran her fingers over the buttons on Kara’s outer vest with the urge to undo them. The sooner she gave in, the better, because they were nearing the house and now that she was calmer, her heat began to affect her again. “I’ll be the perfect wife while you’re out hunting—but please do me the kindness of taking me to the bedroom the moment we get in.”

You might be surprised by the next chapters then! Lol. I do think Lena would have given it a bit more thought if the set of circumstances had been different, but yeah, she knows everybody hates her and could probably put in more effort to avoid confrontations. 😉 If this was Kara's POV, I think she'd definitely be happy about being the center of Lena's attention. She's enjoying the shift in their relationship, and yeah, if not for the interruption, they probably would have stayed home for many more days, lol.
I feel like every chapter Lena will do something rash and get into trouble. So much to the point I know it will happen lol. Anyway at this point I just think this Lena is an idiot. She know people doesn't have a good opinion on her, every little thing will get her in trouble. But she still act out anyway, just so really hot-headed (or she just didn't think but react). Seriously Kara need to get her out of the situation everything lol. It is good Kara could spin it in her favor this time. Not sure if the beta is sent by Lockwood or not but I hope Kara can find proof that he destroyed her property soon enough and lock him up. He is too much trouble. Lena heat is really rough this time around. Nice to have a mindful good alpha Kara around to help her out 😏. They can just hide in their sex den for days if not for some interruption. And now after going into town, Lena just want to extend their time in the sex den lol. I think Kara is not used to Lena being this needy of her but I think little Kara (not so little) is happy being the center of Lena's attention.
