I’m grateful to have an extra pair of hands on it.”
Sam pulled out of the hug with a laugh and Lena held her breath when her friend turned towards her with a knowing grin.
“Speaking of extra hands,” Sam glanced at Kara with a subtle arch of her eyebrows.
Kara immediately turned five shades of guilty red and exhaled a laugh that only succeeded in showing how flustered she felt.
“I don’t suppose your sister is free tonight?” Sam asked innocently, as though she was completely unaware of the tension she had created in the room. “It’s coming up to Ruby’s birthday and she’s in that teenage angst phase that Alex never outgrew. Kara visibly relaxed and side stepped Sam to put some distance between them.

“Sorry guys, I misjudged the landing,” Kara muttered, and forced herself to lift her hand where the phone was still cradled. “That’s why I shouldn’t text and fly.”
It was a believable lie, and one she had to tell, because the truth would jeopardize everything. Her powers had been going haywire, and if National City found out, they would fear her. Plus all of the villains out there would love to take advantage if they sensed she was weak. Alex would probably want to ground her and run tests day and night, and her absence would be felt, so she kept her secret close to her chest and deflected with a grin, “Any chance I could get a hand? “And ruin the friendship, or potentially drive her away with my Luthor tendency to want to control everything?” Lena laughed cynically and lifted the Super watch from where it rested on her desk. She strapped it onto her wrist and shook her head as she mentally prepared herself for more awkwardness with Kara.
“If you’re sleeping together, I’d say you’re already way past the friendship stage,” Sam argued as she walked with her to the elevator.
Lena’s lips twitched to debate the matter, but she was silent as they hurried out to her car.
