“You’re going to have to tell me all about yourself, Kara, because I’m afraid my daughter has been very secretive,” Lillian chided as she mimed that Lena should sit up straighter in her chair. “All I know is that you met at work and you’re Kryptonian.”
Lena slouched some more just to be contrary as Kara cheerfully confirmed, “Yes, I’m from a place called Argo City. It’s just filled with glass skyscrapers. Argo is considered a haven on a planet with deserts and many jungles, some of which even move around. I would love to show you both one day.”
“You would?” Lillian asked, clearly enthralled by the revelation that the invite wasn’t just for her daughter.
“You would?” Lena snapped in irritation, the notion of hurtling through space to a distant planet not nearly as unsettling as having her mother accompany her on the trip.
“How charming,” Lillian sighed, her smile somewhat coy as she kept her eyes on Kara and lifted her glass of wine. “What do you think of Earth now that you’ve lived here a while? As I understand it, Kryptonians are one of the few species that have the same social dynamics as humans. We fit rather well together, do we not?”
Kara looked ready to babble about all the ways she certainly fit well with Lena, and if that wasn’t bad enough, Lillian’s smile was definitely flirtatious.

Kara shrugged lightly and explained, “She asked me after she gave me all these gifts.”
The gifts were on Kara’s desk, and Lena fumed at the sight of a framed picture that Andrea had placed there of her and Kara together. A small succulent sat on a box of chocolates and there was a cup of coffee with a love heart drawn on the side. Lena was practically grinning when Andrea whispered under her breath. “You’re a real bitch, you know that?”
“You’re one to talk,” Lena scoffed, her feisty scent a sign that she was ready to take their argument into one of the labs so she could throttle her colleague.
“Please, everyone in this office knows I've been hitting on Kara. I make my intentions clear, but you?” Andrea looked her up and down with a sneer of disgust and hissed from between clenched teeth, “I honestly can’t tell if you even like Kara, but you do like the attention she gives you.”
“None of this is your business, Andrea.” Lena’s tone was dangerously close to being threatening, and she stared down at her with the kind of hatred she often tried to conceal.
