I think part of the thing is like what the episode is about. It's not so much the episode is about Vulpix leaving, it's, "Oh, by the way, Vulpix leaves". It's kinda like how Star Trek Generations isn't about Kirk's death, but it's more, "Oh, by the way, Kirk dies.".

"It was a nice little filler other than the change to Brock's party..." Maybe this is a knit pick, but I'd kind of like to know what classifies as filler since we've had episodes lately that feel like they could be written off if x event didn't happen.

Heh surprised Suede didn't make a Yugioh reference considering Zayn was pretty much just Wanye Grayson was pretty much using a slightly less in your face and also not trying as much a New York accent Joey Wheeler voice and you know rival and everything. Though yeah i remember watching this one back in the day and how unremarkable Vulpix's exit was. Granted we didn't see like a full episode devoted to it or anything (this is something remedied more in later seasons but for whatever reason they never gave as many focus episodes to Ash's travel partner Pokemon even as filler unless it was a flimsy excuse for them to evolve or to leave and even then it was rather half hearted, see Poliwhirl's in the other episode) but it has been there since the original season so for it to leave though granted at least given back to it's original trainer think would be made more a big deal. Still at least these fillers felt like they had a bit more of a point then the other two if only because they gave a slight smidgen of focus on Misty and Brock instead of just a stupid contrived situation or Ash's pokemon (which yeah an episode about Totodile Chikorita and Cyndaquill feels like it should of had more to it but yeah didn't) so better then the last pair of eps... review still of the same quality throughout though.

Pretty much all of Brock's pokemon have nothing send offs when he leaves them behind. Though, in fairness, most of the time it's not truly goodbye, it's just him leaving them at the gym, but even so he leaves his whole team that he's had since his second episode at the Gym offscreen (save for foretress) with no real send off. He leaves Ludicolo behind between Hoenn and Kanto in a handwave, still, flashback. He leaves his whole Hoenn team (save for Bonsly) behind offscreen, again. Then when he comes back in Alola he doesn't even mention the Pokemon that was evidently so close to him that it rivaled Ash and Pikachu when they first met and the Pokemon directly connected to his new goal of becoming a doctor. Brock doesn't seem especially attached to his Pokemon.
