Commission - Album Cover "Claymore"
🕑 Added 2023-10-13 22:58:08 +0000 UTCThis is a fairly large post by virtue of the inclusion of every proposed thumbnail for this project, which ended up being quite a few!
I was first approached by Claymore with intent for the album cover to feature a character functionally indistinguishable from Miura's Nosferatu Zodd - after providing the first set of thumbs, the band agreed internally that they were concerned about copyright issues and decided to ask me instead for an original spread, with the only guiding principal being "Dark fantasy" and the inclusion of an enormous sword - the titular "Claymore".
The second set of thumbnails contain a number of designs I have every intent to return to on my own time - ultimately the band liked the mounted horseback warrior, but wanted a more traditional armoured "Dark knight" approach as opposed to the skinless multi-armed conqueror in the original proposal. After a quick redraft and a request to see what the horse might look like when not rearing, I had a lot of fun rendering a very "classic" evil knight on an equally wicked steed.
Working on metal covers is something I want to do a great deal more of - i'm inclined to finish up the remaining thumbs as examples.
