I recorded the full Braindance tutorial while playing with my upcoming R.E.A.L. VR mod for Cyberpunk 2077. There are some slight spoilers if you have never played the game before, but nothing about the story because this is only a tutorial segment.
Now, conventional wisdom says that you should not put on YouTube VR videos recorded in a format that can viewed in 3D with Google Cardboard, because nobody uses it anymore. It doubles down by ruling that you should not allow game-controlled camera movement in cutscenes or actually at any time in VR, because people might get sick. And it triples down by insisting that most definitely you should never combine the two things.
However, if it were for conventional wisdom and the faint of heart, VR would not even exist. So follow me, if you will, down the rabbit hole for a 3D sneak peek of what an incredible experience Cyberpunk 2077 can be when played fully in VR.
If you don't have Google cardboard, which unfortunately has long been discontinued, clones are quite easy to find for a few bucks on Amazon or eBay. Also, if you watch the video on your phone, there's a trick to see the 3D effect without even needing Cardboard. Just keep the phone at a longer distance from your eyes than you normally would (like grandpa does), and let your eyes slowly unfocus until you start seeing a double image. By moving the phone a little closer or farther, at some point your eyes might begin to refocus on the stereo image. It takes a little practice to do it, and of course with lenses like those on Cardboard you'll get a much larger and in-your-face 3D image, but it can be done!
Technical notes for 3D Stereo lovers: the image is L-R, so it can be seen correctly with parallel viewing, and not cross-eyed. The distortion is the one that the CV1 applies, not precisely the one needed for Cardboard (which is ill-defined anyway because different models used to need different corrections) but it's good enough for government work. I watched all the video with my cheap Cardboard clone and there is no geometric distortion. The 3D is not 100% clean as it would be in the headset, and of course the field of view is smaller, but the experience is remarkably similar to the one you get in the actual PCVR headset.

After having done much soul-searching, particularly my outlook on the possibility of maintaining a healthy social life during such an event as CP in VR, Iam happy to tell you, Mr Ross, that I have come to a conclusion. I may have only thought I was ready. But, after looking myself in the mirror and really seeing the man that lay therein, I can confidently tell you that you no longer need wait on releasing it on my behalf. I know what is best in life; to crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and to hear the lamentation of their women! In other words, Im very excited and ready to experience your hard work. Your other mods do indeed put full-price aaa VR games such as Fallout 4 and Skyrim to shame, truly.

happy to join and now getting my bearings. I am waiting for this mod more than anything else. Cyberpunk 2077 is up and running on my system, I've got used to the gamepad controls. The Index is ready. All I need now is the mod.

Been refreshing the page all day. Cant wait for this ! Tried the vorpx mod and its pretty jittery on my rtx2060 i9 32gb. Think its a vorpx resolution glitch. Your gtaV mod runs at 90fps on ultra settings. Any plan on implementing some gesture options like Ralf did on his mod ? Havnt tried it but heard its a very good alternative to native VR and gets away with the missing buttons to match xbox controllers. Long live Luke Ross !

I waited to play Cyberpunk unyil it had some sort of VR I tried the vorpex one that was released aroun xmas and it wanted 3 specific resolutions on my monitor and it did not have them so when i loaded in everything was super pixelated.. I truly hope thisa will be a far better experience GTAV was insanity in vr Im hooked!!

Anyone else as excited as me and keeps checking in to see if we have any more cryptic clues? I trying my hardest to stay neutral but have to admit that this could be the best one yet. I love blade runner/dystopia future. I will be looking at all the little details on the vehicles. Does anyone know how to remove the red outlines from enemies? I am sure that will be harder but ultimately better experience.

It will, but for CP2077 I'm already setting most options on low with the RTX 3090! The only thing left for weaker cards is lowering the resolution

still remember the ACE COMBAT 7 split screen video i watched on a google cardboard! I said if one day i can experience VR like that!...those days are gone, and here comes CP2077. Its actually interesting that at the early announcements RED also announced that it would work on VR compatibility! This completely sunk while the project got delayed and delayed! And now the game is pretty amazing (after all the updates eventually). though not that immersive caused by the lag of so many promised 'features'. So the idea to hand a first person game, that is already an amazing ride through the future, a VR mod is just a dream coming true! I'd rather wait to get a great mod then being stuck in a half finished one! Keep up the great work Mr. Ross.

Eh, most likely not that well. The RX 580 is seriously underpowered for this kind of game. You'll have to drop the resolution so much that it might make little sense to play in 3D.

Nice. This would probably work in a headset using something like whirligig and watching it in SBS. Worked nicely for me with my Merge headset and an iphone. Looking forward to the release.
