Mo

Dude this sucks I just joined today.. How were we supposed to know of this before purchasing the patreon??????

Brandon(Post Maester)

Sorry, I don't really scroll back this far often as these posts are super old :) The mod is still out there on the internet and there are YouTube videos on how to get it working but it is no longer supported here because Luke was forced to take it down. You can also find info and a channel dedicated to it on the Flat2VR discord.

Armando Palermo

Hi to all. SO..Is not possible to download RDR'mod???

J

Dude this sucks I just joined today.. How were we supposed to know of this before purchasing the patreon??????

The Liver Man

Where is the MOD? I am ready to delete and redownload it again for GTA

Derrick taylor

how can i get gta v to play flat again. i can't just remove the vr files

TheUnshackled

Thank god I still have the version that supports GTV and RDR2. Will never delete those. Fuck T2/R*

Ape Tronic pc

RDR2 looked cool af

David Itse

Petition Signed and donated to!!

Edward

#MeRDR2

trayvon waller

Hey can you share your .zip folder, unzipped with the original mod files?

Brandon(Post Maester)

Support for it is no longer offered here but you can ask for help getting it working in the Luke Ross section of the Flat2VR discord.

Slimbips

same for me saddddd

LukeRoss

Sure, if you're not interested in any of the other games you can cancel the subscription. Would you consider signing the petition?

Saw88ss

I bought a subscription to download VR mod RDR 2, and it has already been deleted, is it possible to cancel the subscription?

Charles

Does anyone have them?!?!?

STORM3D4LIFE

Well for me RDR2 is Game Over too. Thank you to Rockstars team.

Mark Ashton

how do i sign petition

Lynn Cherny

Same as Jason, I only just got RDR2 for your mod. :(

Jason Gorman

I feel like suing the company because I only bought Red Dead Redemption because of your mod. I have little interest in playing pancake games, but will buy AAA titles in the future if you have mods for them.

LukeRoss

Thank you so much guys, it's really moving for me to see how fast and hard the community knits together!!

WD_VR

I signed the petition as well and donated 8 dollars for more people to view petition.... YOUR THE MAN LUKE hope it works out in your favor>>>>>!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GioSim

I signed the Petition, VR and Luke Ross Vr it’s one of my entertaiments at home and those VR mods are my hobbie ,my pastime ,I bought some of those games because Luke Ross Vr Mods ,we need to stay united and keep signing those petitions ,hope we can get this resolved.

Marc Reis

Which the mod isn't even doing, but yeah true and they should see the benefits they are having for free

Marc Reis

Petition signed, can't believe they are that blind that your mod actually made people by their Game they otherwise would not have sold and others enjoy their old games again in VR, which all is just good news to them...

Solomon Ginsberg

The most ironic thing is that t2/r* have become stupid rich by selling games that mostly involve breaking the law…

Lucas Hüttenrauch

Just signed

Jamie Kuntz

Im organizing a bunch of friends to hit them on their socials demanding they cut this bullsh!t out

paul

Maybe try to work out a slice of the pie deal. I think many of us would pay a few extra bucks a month for a subscription to compensate. I would.

an3k

Luke does not have received a C&D. Period. However, USA is weird and they could sue for "but he was aware of one".

Cercata

So R* didn't send you C&D, only to patreon ... so you can download the old mods elsewhere, until they send it C&D to you. If they send it again to the website, you move it again. Any lawyer here, what do you think ?

EV07

You may see this, you may not. But if you do, you may want to take this into consideration if you haven’t already. Now, I don’t know anything at all about any of this legal stuff, but I have an idea on why they may have came after you. Perhaps it’s because they think you’re using their game for profit, since the patreon to download the VR mods is $10 monthly. I don’t know, just a thought.

Thomas J

I only bought some games like RDR II because of Your mod! So Your VR mod helped them!

Tiger Man

we ALL know that a mod can't be blocked by DMCA unless contains parts of their code, and this is not the case, so what are they trying to achieve? i really don't get it. so they're going to send dmca claims to Nexus ? that's pathetic. They should thank you for your work as they got increased sales because of your vr mods, i legally own ALL the games you've modded (togheter with all games that got a vr mod also from other devs), and i'm sure i'm not alone.

Dark Cypher

Ill pay double just to stick it

Dark Cypher

Go dark web!

Dark Cypher

Fuck them discount or not

d0x360

Yeah no kidding. I never even got to download the mod and I think I've been a member for like 6 months or more lol... Damnit take 2! I'm not buying your stuff anymore, not unless it's like 80% off

LukeRoss

I'm certainly considering it. Let's see how they deal with the situation going forward.

Solomon Ginsberg

Luke, consider leaving Patreon and finding another platform. No sense in letting Patreon earn money from your work when they obviously dont protect thier members enough.

Lucas Hüttenrauch

I'm ready for a shitszorm. Where to fire?

SharkySi

Behind you all the way Luke, what you have been doing has been great for the VR community and we will support you always buddy

Solomon Ginsberg

Without Luke even recieving the DMCA the process is targeted towards Patreon and not Luke. This is good!

Ray Pitcher

Patreon not sending through the original DMCA is pretty sickening. If you did start your own site, you'd have my backing for sure

Awake Servant

Start your own website!!

Max Martin

These are dark days indeed :(

TheGreatGarbanzo

Just left thumbs down reviews for these games on Steam. Awful move to make vague threats on Take Two’s part.

d0x360

Luke I'm sure there is a ton of people sending you messages but could you DM me on twitter? My name is the same as here and you can verify by the avatar image which is also the same.

Veritan

As I've stated before, this is a legal battle. As such, you need to get a lawyer NOW, one that specializes in copyright law. Do not rely on Patreon as they will always look to their own corporate interests first, which will be any actions that remove or reduce their legal liability, regardless of how those actions impact you. Also, stop making statements without speaking to an attorney first, as anything you say can be used against you in a legal battle.

Tomo

Either way its a dixk move - and nothing will get resolved quickly by the looks of it, so the question is how can we establish a second channel for updated zip files for example and questions (something hosted online with password protect only for those who have it , log in and see content - something like that), would be also good to know how many of us actually play these 3 games, of which I think RD2 would be most popular, my guess.

Black Aesop

Just got the email about nuke and it hurts to see you have to go through this. At least we will the latest build for those games to save now. Hope this all gets worked out.

william mumford

All you need to do is download the Realmod file v5.0.2 that is in the Dark Souls post below. That file has all of the mods in it.

d0x360

"To the best of my knowledge, it's impossible. Rockstar made sure of that. Steam would allow you to run the game with any older version (although it requires jumping through a few hoops and understanding the depot mechanism), but a few months ago, I'm not sure exactly when, the Rockstar launcher was modified to prevent you from ever running the game you bought unless every single file is exactly the version that it wants. That's for Story Mode too, not just for online multiplayer."- Luke That's actually not true... But even if it was getting a steam repo Version isn't hard and valve will NOT remove old builds for compatibility reasons for users

d0x360

The mods aren't using files made by rockstar right? Meaning you aren't downloading the game, modifying a file the game came with and distributing that file right? Cause unless you are literally DISTRIBUTING files from their games then there isn't anything valid about these DMCA claims and like I said yesterday it opens them to you suing the ever loving shit out of them. Now... I need to find the mods because I've been a paying member for like 6+ months but never downloaded the damn mods which really sucks but I didn't have time to play so I figured I'd download the latest build and THIS IS NO LIE, I LITERALLY installed RDR2 and about 3 hours after it was finished you made the post and I had no idea what to download or do.. If any user here can assist me please send me an email or twitter DM. It's my username here for Twitter and Gmail. Please... & Thank you

Simplex

Can someone please copy all the instructions for the mods and store it somewhere safe, and ideally share it with the rest of the community? :)

Flowzen

keep your head down for a while. keep it down&wait.. we are with you mate.

Cazanu

im asure they are gonna be as good as the remasters, wich werent even close to the remaster mods they took down, but i doubt they working on VR versions, they just do not wanna see people have fun.

LukeRoss

To the best of my knowledge, it's impossible. That's for Story Mode too, not just for online multiplayer.

97Skynet

If you can't get any clarification from Take2 and Patreon won't provide the notice how can you even verify it's legit. Just reminded of the story that broke late June leading to Bungie filling suit against some you-tubers for submitting fake take down requests. I get you've got to do what you've got to do but someone, somewhere, must be able to provide something. Or at least you would hope they would.

Tomo

Guys, you know how to stop RDR2 from updating and potentially breaking the mod? I have the STEAM version so it only allows me to select : Only update this game when I launch it. but I dont want it to EVER update - is that possible? how?? thanks

Split Enz

I have rejoined Luke to show you my support.

Cercata

I'm going back to RDR2 ... before they update the game and the MOD gets broken !!!!

Michal Hrabovcak

I would also be interested to know if the vorpx creator got the same.

Nicky Butler

I reckon they got vr versions ready for psvr2 when it launches. Maybe thats the reason for a takedown.

CryptVicious

This is about control plain and simple. It's like @BillyBloggs said previously in this thread, "The gaming industry ignores and neglects PCVR to the point that it practically dies, then suddenly cries foul when someone meets an obvious and real market need. They've had SEVEN long years of consumer grade VR to do themselves what a single person has now repeatedly proved to be not only technically feasible but incredibly awesome, and not overly onerous (for companies with an entire studio at their disposal). " It makes them look bad, image is as important as stock market value at the level of Rockstar games. They can't have one guy having this much influence(control to them) over a community when their product is attached to it. Influencing the direction of the entire gaming industry forget it, that's their job. You can bet your ass a couple/few other major studios echoed this idea before it happened if they felt threatened too. Reminds me of what happened with gamestop. The fact that this has been such a positive and impactful explosion of awesomeness gets zero plays or interest in those cold boardrooms. they don't wanna hear it. It muffles the sound of that stock bell ringing. if there is awesomeness and growth to be had it will be us who decides how and when we get there is how they thinkj. Sad is what it is. Wrong move I think. Luke I am behind you brother all the way. You are the Modfather! Maybe we should send Luca Brasi over for a visit? hehe just kidding.

Cercata

Maybe it has sense ... maybe they are gonna release a VR version of their games, and it's worst than Luke's Mod, and they don't wanna be ashamed ...

Grant Bagwell

Hi Luke, sent you a message of a similar thing that happened to us and the resolution.

Solomon Ginsberg

There are several 3rd party software applications that directly or indirectly depend on 1st software to earn money. Vorpx and Voiceattack are two examples which have been around for ages. It makes no sense that Luke is getting this treatment and I hope he stands strong.

pampalini303

This is nonsense. I bought Horizon Zero Dawn, Cyberpunk, Mafia only because it has VR thanks to Luke. The game developers should realize that they have more sales because of the VR mod.

Eduard Roigé

Omg, it does not make sense!

Fearganainm

Well this sucks. At least there are plenty of other games out there that can benefit from your magic. Keep the faith!!

Alan Rogers

I wonder can we always go back to a previous version (Beta?) so the mods will always work. Or is there a way to stop the game from ever updating. I really am no expert in all thos so I'm asking all over the place to find out

Edward Hall

Frick.. I literally just downloaded RDR2 a second time (already had it on Xbox) so I could try it with the mod. Dang.

Alan Rogers

Yeah, I'm trying to find out if there's a way to stop these games updating

Alan Rogers

Oh no, just found out about this. I've been a Patreon for months now and have been loving my playthrough of GTAV in VR. I was looking forward to playing Red Dead 2 next. I'm not very computer savvy but is there a way to change my Steam settings so the games will not update and the mods continue to work as they do now?

Cercata

You'll not buy GTA6 because it will not release or it will be crap ... R* is not even capable now of making PS2 remasters. The people with talent has left, I wonder when Sam will leave too

Cercata

Don't listen to people who says it's illegal to have mods on patreon, they are just Jealous or Lecheers !!!!!! What you have done is perfectly legal, but big companies (not only videogames) bully normal people with the lawyers. Just remove them, but be proud of what you have done !!!!

Steve Smith

On my Twitter: @strausszelnick I will not be buying GTA VI & I have been there since the first GTA. I am but one but when that one becomes many… you’ll regret the decisions you’ve made. Good bye @RockstarGames & @Take_TwoStudios VR will be your undoing, I will rejoice when you fall. @RtoVR

Billy Bloggs

The gaming industry ignores and neglects PCVR to the point that it practically dies, then suddenly cries foul when someone meets an obvious and real market need. They've had SEVEN long years of consumer grade VR to do themselves what a single person has now repeatedly proved to be not only technically feasible but incredibly awesome, and not overly onerous (for companies with an entire studio at their disposal). Saying we're not doing it is fine. Stopping someone else from implementing a feature that the consumer is screaming out for (and that literally generates sales for them) is as stupid as it gets. Disappointed enough to boycott and disparage their future products I gotta say. Sorry to hear this has happened Luke.

GioSim

I bought 3 games because of your VR mods ,it’s their loss if anything happens,I am sorry this is happening,I hope gets resolved and we can continue enjoying your fantastic work.

Collin Drennen

So many plausible theories as to why this is happening, and yet without a response from Take 2 detailing their intent, it seems there is nothing to be done sans a legal challenge of some sort that LukeRoss has stated he has no intent of fighting. Some random thoughts: - Does anybody remember when the NFL was challenging all of the personal Fantasy Football Leagues, because the NFL said it has official and exclusive rights to the players? Does anybody know how that turned out? - Remember when game consoles used to have 3rd-party plug-in devices for cheat codes? I don't know if it happened to all of them, but I think I recalled to where some of those companies did eventually get shut down. The above are stated only because of the similarity in that a 3rd-party was making money off of an existing 1st-party platform. I would desperately like to believe in the theory that Take 2 is doing this to make way for a formal VR adaptation of GTA V and RDR2 (given the assumption that these are somewhat still popular, commercially viable games), but that the Mafia series is also included is pretty confusing in that I would not have even known those games were still 'desired' prior to the VR mod. I personally got nervous when it was stated LukeRoss is making enough cash off of the mods not to have to pursue other means of income generation. I'm assuming Take 2 could purely be taking their current course of action because someone is making sufficient cash based on the existence of their property. I more than understand in feeling justified to be compensated for work performed and wonder if a voluntary contribution by the masses might have been a alternative approach to consider, compared to a mandatory paywall (again, based on the premise of a 3rd-party app generating revenue from the existence of a 1st-party platform). I understand everything stated above could be a big old crock of bullcrap, but given my limited knowledge of many things, these are the impressions I'm left with. If this turns out to be a situation specific to Take 2, I can almost understand for no other reason than companies react differently. What frightens me is if this is only the first wave.

Hoshi82

Wow what a dick move. Hope this gets clarified. Don't know what to say. Good luck & god speed!

zer0int

now i'm wondering if you're supporting [are a patreon of] N00MKRAD as well, i think i saw your name in the credits. then again, yours might be just a more common nickname than mine. if it's you: hi-five! if it's not you: hi-five as well. #randomsh*tpost

zer0int

In the end, it all boils down to money. What's the difference between a big corpo and a single [legal] person? MONEY. If that single person can afford the same quality of lawyers... There is no difference. Well, at least if you're from a last remaining semi-true democracies; otherwise you'll have a random surprise of either chemo- or radiotoxic substances in your tea, but I am happily confident that won't be the issue here. So it all comes down to money. I say "GameStop", and I say: Consider yourself a "retail investor" and behold! Causing Havoc is possible! Now, Luke Ross isn't yet some Mewwon Rusk who can turn and entire market upside down with ONE SINGLE TWEET about rocket science (or cryptocurrencies), but... Derailed capitalism can now be further derailed by people like you and me, don't underestimate your powers. =)

zer0int

Oh, that's right... I can just up my pledge! D'oh, thanks for the heads up - here's an extra euro for ya. Sorry it ain't more, but I can't count on a nuke finishing me off *before* I run into financial trouble myself here. Because, you know, Germany is the top of the world. Top sh*thole country with the highest electricity prices, thrice or four times as much as yours. Good thing I never bothered with trying to get a driver's license and then making a habit of being able to drive to places, or I'd be upping my pledge by 13 cents only instead.... Yay car(e)free life, point is: There's always some sh*t that could be so much worse - and alas, glad to see you made some progress with Patreon there, and delighted to see all the people chipping in for support here! Fingers crossed - and don't worry about replying, I can't even *read* all the comments that arrived as a response here - I'm just happy it seems people are awesome on here. GOD LUCK & GOOD SPEED! =)

97Skynet

Unfortunate news for sure. Everyone of the games mentioned I already owned on console and bought again, expressly to use the VR mods. Amazing work. Guess I'm on to plan B now download a fresh non-updated copy to store with the latest version of mods and keep as a backup so it never gets updated. Its a pain loading the newest version to verify licensing and then going to off-line renaming folders and loading the non-updated but at least it should keep the VR format playable. Or at least always worked in past when I just didn't want to bother updating with all the mods installed and accidently breaking them all. GTA5 is particularly painful, spent lots of time not only in GTA 5 but also a fully modded, with VR, LSPDFR. How such a massive modding community such as LSPDFR, which very publicly has massive mods, has no issues but your VR specific ones do I'll never know. Maybe it's the VR specific focus with dipping their toes in VR with originally L.A. Noir case files and now GTA San Andreas. It was the GTA 5 VR mod that made me decide to move from PSVR to PCVR buying a gaming computer and Rift S. Only good news is there are still lots of awesome games, that are not rockstar, that could use the VR treatment.

Brandon(Post Maester)

I bought a couple of their games just for your mods as well. Never would have bought them otherwise. Honestly your are only helping them. Its quite possible that some higher up just simply was told that there is someone making VR support for their games and they didn't even bother to actually look at what you are doing. They just went with their immediate reaction to shut it down.

Stuart

Perhaps we should demand steam refunds, Similarly the only reason I purchased a number of these games is specifically for VR. I am not interested in playing any of these games in pancake. Hope it resolves smoothly and equitably. It's ridiculous - the ground swell of interest and support in VR is a business opportunity for them. They should embrace it not repel their customer base.

MJB

Well Resubbed to downloaded the updated zip file before it's gone... Or modified without some of the mods. This sucks. It's the only reason I play some of these titles. VR just puts the fun back into games for allot of us.

Michal Hrabovcak

I have spent around 200£ or more to buy games that I would never buy .and all because you made a vr mod for them.and I have a feeling that there are thousands of us who have done so, so the companies have made a profit and yet they have not made any effort physically or financially and at the same time the sales must have increased after the announcement that their games are in vr.so I don't know what they are complaining about ...greed has no boundaries ...

william mumford

I hope Take2 comes to the realization that you have actually helped their sales in the growing VR community. The only reason I bought the mafia definitive edition game was because of your mod. I had already played the original game years ago when it first released and had no intention of buying the game again just to play it with the improved graphics. Your mod gave me the incentive I needed to buy it again. This is just really a silly move on their part. Even if they are planning on making VR versions of these games (which I doubt) your vr mods still would not affect the sales of those games either because we would still buy them because of the improvements they would be able to make due to having the source code. This just paints a bad reflection on them. Hopefully they will realize all of this and back off.

zer0

Wow man. I had bought all these games on console years back, and have actually bought them again for the sole purpose of being in these games in VR. Quite the stab in the back if we can't play them with your mod. ESPECIALLY IF WE'VE NOW BOUGHT THEIR GAME TWICE (not to mention them already having us buy GTAV however many times lol) We arent even paying for the mods. We are all chipping in to allow you the grace to bring us these amazing mods like GTA V (if I'm allowed to say that in public), for free,. like you already have. You have so many requests to continue your work after the free mods you had made, it only makes sense to allow you the grace. I really hope they don't mean to do this to all of us. I for one will continue to support you for what you do even if you have to port your mods to a free source outlet like github. If all the supporters leave, then obviously you can't bring out the mods, so nobody wins. This is devastating. We love you and your work man.

Rich_DCC

Can I lock out updates and keep using it, I just have gta v installed for this..

dreamking

I also did buy the games again because of your mod. I hope you can resolve this with them. If not, please mod games from other companies and we will buy those games and support those companies. Free market: greedy companies loose money and those lawyers who draft such notices eventually get fired (on the average) because they are spending their time on the wrong investments.

David Gohman

Thanks for everything either way, and hopefully sanity will prevail.

Tomo

PUNKS! time to set up something more private away from spying eyes :)

Jarrod Matheson

I personally RE purchased all of their games in your name. I owned them already on other platforms. They aren't reading the room correctly.

J S

I’m playing some of these games for the first time and in VR because of your work, it’s probably the most excited I’ve been about games in years. Hope this resolves easily and quickly in your favor!

Flowzen

yeah im in the same boat..extra sales and extra playing metrics..has to be a legal fluke. if not- well, rockstar games wont be rockstar games for me anymore-as they were, for longer than a decade.. would be a loose/loose. dont be a bloody bully rockstar. take the momentum, dont crush it.. ;)

bato

That's horrible and backwards. You are the best. Being able to play these immersive games in such an immersive way has filled me with a wonder I havn't had since I was a child. Thanks for making it happen. No good deed goes unpunished.

The Passion of the Nerd

For the record: I only recently just BOUGHT Red Dead Redemption 2 BECAUSE your VR mod was available to play it with. I took a stab at the game on a different platform and it wasn't for me a few years ago but your mod rekindled my interest at having another go and made them MORE money. Having been a content creator for a few years and having dealt with DMCA take-downs and nonsense as well, I have received that very same comment and know it doesn't change anything. But, for whatever it's worth. Thanks for all the hard work.

paul

It does not make any sense. They must not understand what you are doing. You are helping them sell games. Unless they are looking to make VR versions of their own. And if they are they are, they are very late to the game.

Flowzen

hang in there, mate. i´m sure, it will be worked out. after all, we´re buying more of their copies, since you brilliantly modded it for us all. never would have bought the mafia trilogy, wouldnt you have modded it :) it´s free pr and extra sales. a no brainer to me! :) thanks for your work so far, and good fortune with this matter:) and btw: come on rockstar ;) im a fan of your games. dont be a bully.. :)

Bob Douglass

Yep, totally agree. Mafia trilogy, Horizon: ZD, RDR2 (though I would have probably bought RDR2 regardless). And man, I am hoping for some Bioshock in the near future. This is nonsense on take-2's part.

Bob Douglass

https://www.theverge.com/2022/7/6/23197169/luke-ross-vr-dmca-takedown-take-two-rockstar-patreon

Okami

Wow is sad that the companies are being like that with you, but don't everything will be fine. Just keep yourself safe and if, sadly, you need to take down the mods, well so be it. Best of luck with everything man! :)

Q2C VR Gamer

I just signed up to get the RD2 mod, where do i grab it before it's too late?

Rich_DCC

What the heck, you probably brought many people such as myself back to the game. Well I guess when one person can do more than a team of 50 could, someone is bound to get bent shameful. Considering its doesn't even work online had no effect on them what so ever. and would also provide no advantage even if. crazy times. No wonder game industry is in freefall. or soon to be. also I bought RDR2 just to try the mod hear that Take 2?

Natasha Owens

Hey Luke. How about doing a survey post on if we have bought games in response to your mod. It might be an interesting fact to include in discussion with take2. Show that you are not hurting them at all and are actually helping them along in making money. I know I for instance have bought Mafia Trilogy, Red Dead 2 and Dark souls. Games I had not purchased previously and had no real intention of doing so until you gave them VR.

Dave K

This is a 4 year old game, and the only reason it’s relevant again is because of your Mod. Free publicity, if you ask me. Either way, I’m sorry this happened, and I hope you’re able to sort it out. You do amazing work.

Harry Botterill

Only reason I bought RDR2 was to play the real VR mod

Black Aesop

Really hope this all works out for you brother! We all love the work you do!

Sark

I would not have bought RDR2 and GTAV if not for your mod. I'm sure im not alone in buying games because of you.

macstrat

1. You need to contact a lawyer about this ASAP. Timing is CRITICAL when responding to anything legal. make an assumption that the countdown clock is always ticking down. 2. Does YOUR code, in ANY WAY, rely on code or processes unique to those games? namely did you "copy, adapt, or distribute" any code 3. the fact that your mod works with multiple games from multiple companies, actually might work to your advantage as it shows that you use a universal injection process that is not unique to the GAME, but relies on system resources to add a third party video driver. (tbf, i dont know how it works, just that its awesome, thats an example) 4. you might also point out that your game in no way overrides, modifies, or circumvents ANY protection that has been instituted by the game company. 5. Contact a Lawyer ASAP 6. You might consider NOT allowing the mods to be used online, but only for single player games 7. Take-Two over the last year or so has really been going after any modders, its possible they saw the words "mod" and "GTA" and a bot sent the request. 8. Having recieved a number of DMCA notices myself, they usually inclide the URL of the infringing materials so that you know exactly what they are refering to 9. https://kotaku.com/take-two-interactive-removes-more-gta-mods-using-dmca-s-1848053219 <----its an ongoing issue

VirtualmisterL

In my opinion, if your mods contain nothing of their copyrighted works, then there is nothing to take down. Other than possibly the gtav & rdr2 images I see on the cover image.

Thomas J

It could be the logos and graphics of the game titels. They are surely copyrighted and trademarks. Your work is Your own personal copyrighted work. But i dont know the letter of them.

Georgi Ivanov

And yes it would probably be a good idea to  take down all their logos and stuff down . There is a big chance this is what they are on about . They can do that .  A company logo, or in this case game logo is an intellectual property of the Studio and they can ban anyone from using it .

Georgi Ivanov

That is just ridiculous . Bunch of greedy *****.... If you are doing anything it is selling more of their product . I owned and played both red dead and GTA V on PS4 . And I bought these again for PC because of your modes . I'm sure I'm not the only one . I'm not a lawyer , but I can't see any legal ground for their claims . Imagine Mercedes suing Brabus for tuning their vehicles !?! Ridiculous! I really can't believe a big studio like Take Two can be so... patetic . And at the same time Bethesda is hiring Fallout moddeshoutrs ! We are all with you man . Keep us posted !!! If there is a way we can help, let us know .

Nicky Butler

Thats crap hope you can come to some kind of comprimise with them. Its maybe because your mods are making u money, thats the only thing i can think of. Wonder if theyd say the same if the mods were free. Hope u can sort it good luck luke

TheGreatGarbanzo

Hey hey - please give us the option of donating to lawyer you up.

Markus Müller

Same here. Only bought RDR2 and the Mafia Trilogy because of Lukes mods. Luke should start a GoFundMe campaign for the legal battle. I'm sure that not only VR enthusiasts would be happy to support this.

Marlec

This might actually be good news. Most of the time when modders get issued with a takedown its cos the dev/pub wants to release something themselves. This is a bummer for any chance for Bioshock VR thou :( Anyway i have signed up again :) *Grabs popcorn*

Sophie

I will continuously support you no matter where this issue is going. Just to clarify I will never have purchased or even played these games if it is not because of your mods! I am a pure VR game player! And we need modders like Luke!

Bob Douglass

Hey, I hope you find a good lawyer and fight this. If you ask I'll donate to the cause

Vernon Nash

This is unbelievable! My situation is exactly as you describe. I have been holding off buying RDR2 for a while now but today I signed up to your Patreon and bought RDR2 on Steam ONLY because I could play it in VR. It is now 72 GB downloaded out of 119GB. If it wasn't for your hard work and skill in making the VR mod then I wouldn't be tempted to buy certain games. I hope you find a way through this, Luke, which doesn't mean you have to take the mod support for certain games away. Best wishes to you.

FlyingWaffle

Use the free consultation with this lawyer, he has his own youtube channel, he's great and has a passion for video games and everything legal concerning video games https://hoeglaw.com/ One of his videos related to copyright, etc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiWHa04qugU

PS5 exclusive... I'd bet my life on it if they were doing it because of an upcoming VR version.

BOB HOPE

What copyrighted work? They must mean the game logos on your background; that's all I see. Take those down and you're good! (Only half-kidding)

d0x360

As long as you don't host any files that come with the game itself then they can't do a damn thing and that's a false DMCA claim which means you could sue for a large sum per take down notice technically.

Cercata

> I refuse to believe that is what Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. wants, because that would be an extremely anti-customer and anti-gamer move on their part. I believe it's what they want. And I believe it's illegal, but they know a modder can't stand against their law firm. This is very SAD. I hope at least this means they are gonna release VR versions of their games I'll change my review for those games to negative, but latter, so Steam doesn't get it as review bombing.

BOB HOPE

I just upped my patreon to $20. Support Luke! Increase your donations if you are able.

Reach out to Leonard French. He's a copyright attorney who specializes in video games. http://leonardjfrench.com/contact/ He can represent you or refer you to someone else in the legal field for representation. He'll probably also be interested in covering your story on his YouTube channel Lawful Masses as it's directly in his field of expertise. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHypmOp8AdM

My guess is that, Gta Sa Vr is getting a trailer soon. And when people see VR gta they will look to you in the time being. Once SA comes out, it probably won't be as great as what you have accomplished with gta 5 considering the age of GTA SA. I'm not sure where you are based but in Australia we have something called "Justice of the peace" or Ombudsman. You can always seek free legal advice through them and they will even go as far as represent you in court, depending on the matter. Don't give up is all I'm saying. Good luck Luke.

Brett Erskine

Keep us in the loop. I feel for you. Hmm.. Is this to say that, until further notice, every future zipped Luke Ross mod will have all files related to any Take-Two Interactive games removed or are you simply going to remove all images, videos and other on screen copyrighted material from Patreon? ( I was about to buy some of these games to play with your mod but wondering if it's going to be broken with your next update)

PS: Thanks for justifying my insane all-nighter gaming spree I'm gonna enter now, and that is gonna leave me depend on intoxicating doses of caffeine to get minimum work done. I'm not sure anybody else will be understanding, but at least *I* won't feel bad for neglecting everything else for the sake of gaming... lol. There's uncertainty about what I wanna do with this evening gone, alea iacta est - and now excuse me, I gotta indulge in a bout of serious gaming addiction disorder and finish a game. Carpe noooocteeeeeeeeem !!!!!!!!11

Omran Al-sharif

The problem is the sentence "Makes money" what's funny there are other GTAV modes that require a patreon subscription. I am sure if there was a news publish title soandso makes $$$ creating GTAV modes, samething will happen

Omran Al-sharif

I bet you it is because of this news https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/how-this-vr-modder-makes-2420000-a-month/ar-AAZeeLu

1. Consider a lawyer, no matter what. Even if you don't want to be involved in a legal battle / a lawsuit - still consult a lawyer. Disclaimer: I have no idea about US laws other than multiple occasions of thinking "Holy f*ck that's insane! That wouldn't be possible in my country!" - but even in the case of dramatically different laws in this case, I still think "consult a lawyer, don't say anything, or one wrong word will be used against you" is justified. Disclosure #2: I am painfully experienced with legal battles, albeit limited to 1. deliberate traffic accidents for the sake of fraud und 2. especially life-dominating ever-lasting war against a "Stalinist Landlord" (big corpo) trying everything they can to bully people with old rental contracts (= paying a quarter of current market price) for appartments. In the latter case, I let absolutely ALL documents that ever arrive be handled by my lawyer, with very satisfying results so far. Albeit it did take me to court twice so far, a lot of "minor bullsh*t" was solved just by my lawyer knowing his sh*t and opening a can of whoop-ass on them, followed by retracting of [irrelevant details] - and that was it. 2. I'd imagine you probably have enough cash to afford a lawyer, but if it pains you to pay for such a dickmove: Consider opening a slightly pricier tier so people can chip in for lawyer payments (that way, it was never your money you have received for your work, and its a tactic that is GREAT for psychohygiene / mental health preservation in any case of sh*tshow this might end up being). 3. I also agree with others here - it's "probably" media attention that alerted the asswipes to this; use your contacts in media (even the German one with the misunderstandings!) and tell them about the "update" (again, I recommend doing this AFTER discussing with your trusted lawyer, but in case you wouldn't ever get a lawyer involved, I'd opt for definitely doing this. And when / if something about the case gets published, please do make sure to let us know, because social media bombing actually works. 4. In case you get a lawyer, maybe also ask him what your "customers" can do on their side. Personally, if this happens, I am gonna "demand my money back" from Steam because it's actually true that I only got RDR2 because of your VR mod. That's gonna be unsuccessful, because I've been playing it for damn long now - but it will still open a can of whoopass on Steam if everybody does it (you can just buy another copy if you want to continue playing pancake, you know - but they're not gonna respond positively if you had it for more than two weeks so you'll keep the game most likely, it will just cause a stir at another big corpo as might be an additional (albeit not to be used stand-alone) leverage point. X. Finally: Sorry to hear you're going through this shit, I hope you don't feel the amount of frustration and injustice that I am feeling on your behalf "by proxy" about that crap. I'm gonna closely monitor this Patreon and will be ready to be an annoying grain of sand in that reckless corpo crushing bullsh*t machine.

Peter Docter

Only reason i can think of them wanting to do this is because of releasing a VR version for themselves, since VR is on the rise these days.

Joebro

I know you never did it for the money. Just downloaded and archived everything. Shouldn't be that hard to figure out the config myself if they update the games where it no longer works. Either way thank you so much for the mod, I started subscribing when you announced you were doing Cyberpunk, and had a blast with that, as well as RDR2 and GTAV.

Luigi Gio Schembri

As you said nothing you are doing is a violation, you could go on and never mention rdr 2 or gta v again but keep the functionality there. At the end of the day the mod is 1 file i drag and drop on any (supported) game folder? Just a work around and ofcourse not ideal, i hope this is cleared up as ive seen take two ruin others. The five m team once had private investigators turn up at their doors. Your mod isnt costing them money however… perhaps this is them showing their hand and they will be doing some form of official vr. (Or san andreas vr is soon)

Andrew McEvoy

I cant give you specific legal advice, but from what my friend says who works in law (not copyright law so take as a general feedback) thinks you probably will lose this. But it is clearly a massive dick move and I would like to call their marketing/IP legal team a bunch of c**ts.

WIG

This may refer to any artwork that you used in your patreon posts? Or externally using art work.

Lewigi

It's a pity but they do this to modders frequently. It's always because of business interests, they know your mod doesn't infringe on their copyright and that they have no legal basis, they just also know that they're a big corp and you're a single person

Aaron R

Seeing how they did just that when they "remastered" GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas, I think it is certainly a possibility. That said, seeing how massively they failed to deliver on the remaster, I have no faith that they'd do it reasonably well and they are absolutely bullies for trying to take down the mods that Luke has made. It's purely a money grab for them; they do not care about decency.

Mike Perhinski

This is complete bullshit ! I really feel like this is another money grab power flex by a big company shitting all over talented mod creators because they can’t be bothered making their own games in VR. Thanks for keeping us in the loop Luke ! You bet your ass I’ll be emailing take 2 about this being absolute nonsense and a power trip. Keep fighting the good fight 😤🧐

3ree

I was so happy to see The Verge piece and as a recurring subscriber, I value the work and time you put in. It's a shame this may have been the push for them...looking into this to see if I can provide any relevant information for you

Tyler Johnson

Wonder if they are going to mod these games to VR themselves and don’t want the competition…?

Sascha

Your mod is the reason I bought RDR2 and i wouldn't have done it without VR. Keep your head up no matter how it turns out, as you stated there is no copyrighted software in your mod zip files. Even if those game mods need to be taken down there are plenty of other great games waiting for a Luke Ross to do his magic :)

Shiber Kivan

This is a dark day for modding community, another one after they purged all mods modernising old GTA games to modern standard in preparation for release of the travesty and slap to the face that was their own remaster. This is vile practice and should be condemned. Modding is at the heart of gaming.

KENNYOUT3

The only true way tah change anything is through money. Tha only reason take two takin down mods got stopped is cause their stock fuckin crashed. These people only speak money. So if this gets enough ahttention. Only then. Will anything change at all

Bob Bob Bob

Wow, your mod is literally the ONLY reason I bought MDE1/2/3. You are making them money and they pull this shit on you?! We need to plaster this all over social media. They need to be knocked down a goddamn peg or ten.

KENNYOUT3

I can almost guarantee you that they most likely will

David Schell

True story!

J B

That's lame. I'll be so pissed if they force you to do that.

KENNYOUT3

They jus wannah try tah fuck u over cause one man is doing work that their studio of over 1000 fuckers can't do
