I generally agree with Hakim, on many many things, but his stance on religion just doesn't make sense whatsoever. It doesn't matter that religion has always existed since time immemorial. That doesn't make it any less reactionary. And even if you put that aside, faith in a divine being implicitly requires a suspension of critical thinking. That is not something that should be encouraged. I understand the NEED for religion, especially under Capitalism. And I also agree that socialist states should not go out of their way to suppress religion. However, as Marx and others have written, it essentially serves as a way for people to deal with such oppressive material conditions. My hope is that as people's lives improve, that the need for faith slowly decreases. In fact, this is something already seen in the Global North

I just had a discussion with a well meaning and well read comrade where he said that Sakai is a fed and that Fanon doesn't apply to USA because the settler population is much higher. So many of my fellow white comrades do not want to reckon with settler colonialism

JT I just saw your tweet asking for sci-fi book recs. I don't tweet so I'm responding here. Check out the book Downward to the Earth by Robert Silverberg. It's relatively short, but jam packed with cool themes on settler colonialism, (white) chauvanism, tourism to "exotic" destinations, etc. No spoilers plot is ~100 years in the future, a guy who used to work as basically a slave driver on a planet colonized by a corporation goes back after decolonization to atone for his sins with the indigenous population. I've been talking this book up for years and think it should be way more popular. It's from the 1970s, and I believe someone else wrote an unofficial sequel comic book though I haven't read that.

The spanish flag is quite ugly. The republican flag was not much better though, it needs a redesign. It's a pity the Burgundy cross has been coopted by our far right. Or old Hapsburg flag was much more aesthetically pleasing

Any vexillologist will tell you that the American flag scores very poorly on flag design. One of the key points of a flag should be that the youngest citizens should be able to replicate it easily. No kindergartener in the US can count to 50 let alone draw 50 stars and 13 stripes

Sport's team question: bringing it back to wisconsin, actually wouldn't the Packers (wisconsin nfl american football team) be a successful model in the states for a more socialized team? They are owned by the fans as the only non-profit team in the nfl. I feel like the fact that the poster child of corporate sports in america still has a team in middle america that prides itself on their ability to play in subzero temps and is also a community owned corporation structure says something about the popularity of that structure. And it's not like their a bad team either, they have had 4 superbowl wins which puts them in the top 6 teams ever (they haven't won for a while) . Also because their community owned structure cheeseheads are some of the most loyal fans that exist.
