Great comment, I was looking for a way to critizise the superficial, neoliberal instrumentalization that "centrist" parties have used to pass as progressives and "identity reductionism" sounds ideal in order to differentiate from reactionary views

love u guys and so happy to see madeline here! one small critique I want to make, instead of using the term "identity politics" to describe what you're saying use "identity reductionism". I've seen a lot of people make this important distinction because identity politics is radical and intersectional. I reccommend reading The Combahee River Collective Statement where the first known usage of the term is described as politics developing from lived experience as a marginalised identity. "identity reductionism" is a more direct description of the tendency to reduce people to their identity for whatever political agenda they're trying to push, and the added bonus is you don't have to cringe at yourself for feeling like you sound like a right winger complaining about idpol lmao. β€οΈ
