I am the "other" guy that has had those hateful brake assemblies apart and rebuilt them. Not many will even attempt it, good show!

Chasing which parts are "right" is more than a passing pin, too.

very nice fix

My money is on Wes, every time!

I had a 1961 Dodge postal van that had an emergency brake on the drive shaft similar to that one. Once it goes out of adjustment (through wear) the driver would sometimes start driving with the emergency brake left on. Itβs not like I would ever do something lame like that!

If I was in the business of rebuilding these things I think I'd quickly be out of business. Complicated for the sake of being complicated.

That's what I thought it was. Just a big drum break. Leave it to Ford to make simple hard.

It's far from perfect, but this rig is on it's last leg.

It's a head scratcher.

I don't know why they made it so complicated. International just puts a drum on the output shaft.

Yeah you might need to remind me.

Mostly fix it!

That one was insane!

I just saw that. Crazy!

Ford is so bad about trim level changes. I've heard some models will have 30 or more different front bumper options...

Great lathe work, Wes! Another fine repair.

Goes to show that experience and skill can not be beat! Good luck comes after hard work, and usually mistakes that have to be fixed, great job, usual good explanation and very skilled work!!
David Yates
Nice fix Wes, I would have put money on the original shaft being beyond repair. Just goes to show experience really does count!

Auction prices can sometimes be ridiculous!

Another quality WWW video :) Not sure if you've heard already, but Vehcor got burned out of his shop. It would be excellent if you two could collaborate in some way.
Bill Scott
Another entertaining video, thanks.

"Not one of Ford's better ideas" suggests....Ford has had better ideas ;)

Nice!

Chasing threads is nerve-wracking. Doing it without numerical controls to allow a person to "zero" things out, even more so. You made it look easy, almost deceptively so. The parts situation is nuts, too. I need a clockspring for my '22 Escape, those are in short supply. Even more complicated is when the "Trim Level" matters as to which part is the "right" part (even when used across several Models).
Curtis Roberts
I've never worked on one of those but I've seen a few on motorhomes and such. They seem like a great idea on a long vehicle like that so you arent running cables for miles to the rear end but I had no idea they were that complicated. Nice work to save that guys bacon.
