Had to go rescue a friend. He was plowing a driveway and got stuck. Thankfully I still have my Marine Corps E-tool. Dug a little then pulled him out. Dang it's nippy!

My god that is cold!
Watch Wes Work
It's scary cold today.
Chris Jenkins
Great video Wes. Sorry I missed it yesterday. Weather self corrected here too. -45 out, units dealers choice at that point.
Curtis Roberts
Great work. We getting the same crappy weather here in Iowa of course. Hang on and stay warm!!
Jeff Chandler
I was wondering if there was some kind of dust shield on the funnel side to keep the dust off of the bushing?
Steven Cox
oilite bushing material is infused with oil anyway so it doesn't need grease.
Russ Wideman
Tom used my line!! Rube Goldberg indeed!! Well done Wes!
Tom Hollowell
Love the video. Some excellent Rube Goldberg support work, some paintless dent repair and maybe the best “that’s what she said” www moment. I was kind of disappointed you did not make some nasty torch popcorn though.

You win. 12-hours. ugh. Bill hi 12 hours. You earned it having all the right tools.

It's similar to the smell of really stale beer.

It's supposed to be -18F here tomorrow night. Ugh.

I've never smelt rotting corn and I'll do my best to keep it that way! Lovely repair Wes, that took some determination to disassemble

Great work on the auger, been pretty mild here as well, until recently we had no snow at all then got 8" of snow now it's sitting at -27.7 °C or for you -17.86 °F it's been a strange winter so far.
Watch Wes Work
Supposed to be -18 tomorrow night.
Watch Wes Work
He told me they had a few spare units, so you are not wrong!
Watch Wes Work
Supposed to stay below zero for the next 4 days. Low of -18 tomorrow night. That'll be fun.

A heck of a job Wes !!! I wish I had half your patience. Nothing opens up your sinus like rotten soybeans and corn, a slimy mess. Great video. The struggle is real. In southern Illinois, no snow yet only very cold.
CapnMac82
Down here in DFW, we are getting the tail end of your "bomb cyclone" with incredibly cold (compared to normal) temperatures). Does not look like we will see precipitation, but there's much waiting on tenterhooks this w/e.

As you pointed out, the real issue was that it's a long, gangly, sort of thing, not a complicated one. Would have taken even more time to set up some sort of support frame to hold the beast to get better leverage than to just repair it. The patience required to work on the thing is probably as key as the skill. Which likely explains why such augers are often seen in groups, where one minor thing has sidelined them each, one by one.
Eric Corse
And it made the video more interesting.
Watch Wes Work
It might have been possible to do the job without them if I had bought all the parts. I think making my own parts was cheaper, faster, and maybe even easier.
Eric Corse
Any time Wes uses machine tools it's a good video.
Watch Wes Work
As long as it works I'll enjoy it too!

Something for everyone!
Watch Wes Work
I used to be better. Kinda rusty.

My dad told me once that he wouldn't farm 10 acres without a lathe and welder.
Watch Wes Work
Wind is the issue here. Roads are closed everywhere.
Watch Wes Work
She won't have that either!
Sam Ellison
Really enjoyed that. Something different.
James Riordan
Wes, That near brought this old farmer to tears - just perfection: - Heatin’ and beatin’ - General pursuadifyin of reluctant metallurgicals - Janky set ups - Machinin’ 🙌 - Fermenting, rotten corn - Max - More jankificashuns - Fine hammer and dolly work Jaysus man, that is a high bar you’ve set !
Sue Rollinson
I just love watching you mill stuff!
Sue Rollinson
Ask your wife for a band-aid. That's what I call them. A bandage to me would mean gauze and adhesive tape for a large wound.
Bret Ryan
Great video Wes! A lot of work but you got the job done as usual!

Great project Wes! Part of what makes this channel so good is the breadth of projects you work on and taking us along. I guess couplers are obvious, but I now have a better appreciation for their application. Always a joy to see a project where lathe, mill, drill press and shop press all get used to fab up a fix.

Here in eastern Illinois we got heavy wet snow. And today the temperature dropped and high winds are expected.
Watch Wes Work
Hmm. That film looks pretty sweet. I'll have to get some!

I'm a specialist paramedic now, and part of that role is wound care. My best friends are 3m Cavilon Barrier and hypafix tape. The combination of the two with a regular bandage will keep it stuck down and clean, even when working with your hands. The Cavilon has the added benefit of protecting skin from adhesive reactions.
Watch Wes Work
Heh. I've seen a bar whip out of a lathe before. It's terrifying.
Watch Wes Work
My wife doesn't get it. I ask her for bandages and she just stares blankly. It must be nice to never get injured!
Maurice Johnson
That shaft support setup was so beautiful ! -- almost brought tears to my eyes ! :)
Brendan Hood
I cut myself a few weeks ago while getting my shop set up after a move. Not a band-aid or gauze anywhere to be found. Not exactly smart of me, but adding insult to injury....I've been a paramedic for nearly 20 years, with a number of those years in industrial safety. There is now a first aid kit in the shop.
