I had one I had to use a wench to get apart. We just replaced it. It was soo BAD!

Very good video as usual. Old stuff always has more problems when you start a repair. My 57 Chevy is a classic case of start small end big, but great fun when done!

I posted on YT about this video. I couldn't remember if I was a Patreon or not. Apparently I am. Anyway, I loved the title. My version is "If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed fixing anyway."

Dangerous and frustrating, but we're stuck with them just like tapered pipe threads

I have a contraption like that I built and it does work well. In fact I have to be careful or it starts taking off metal!

I have been looking at them. Maybe next year.

Yay for two-part videos!!

Who ever invented snap rings was either a genius or a sadist. They almost always go flying across the room when you try to put them on.

Wes, here's a tip I know you'll like. Buy a couple rolls of abrasive paper in various grits, I think 1" is typical. Take a rod the same size as your air grinder, typically 1/4", put that in the vice and hacksaw a groove vertically so that the paper will fit in tightly. Rip off a piece of the paper about 8" long, roll it up, and stick it in the bore. Fire away (rotation must be considered when rolling it). Best way to sand those bores, dispose of the paper as needed and keep going to town. Seems like we'd often fold the paper in half to 1/2" too.

Wes I would highly recommend a heat pump, it works for me in Canada all year round cool in the summer and warm down to -20 then the propane furnace takes over, but that's only a week or so a year. Mitsubishi is the brand I went with and never had a problem in its 9 year life so far.

Yee haa! It's not stupid if it works 😁

The above comment tells all the truth...

As everyone says, the more you fix, the more little leaks become big leaks. Good luck.

Eric Corse

Great info thanks. That gland nut squeaking was almost as bad as a slate blackboard, yes I'm that old.

Hydraulics are fascinating, but a struggle to make interesting on video--you managed a good job of it, though. And without the distraction of several million crayon-eaters convinced a storm 900 miles away was bent upon drowning them tomorrow.

Wes, I think it's time to start thinking about A/C for your shop. I know when I get hot and sweaty, unforeseen events occur, usually bad.

Tom Hollowell

I thought this was your machine and you were fixing it because you had big plans for a shop addition. I have watched Jon on Farm Craft do some massive hydraulic cylinder repairs and found those interesting as well. Also of you want to permanently kill all vegetation a leaky hydraulics do the trick.

Rich Wielechowski

Fun times, more you fix the more leaks you find. Hope you’re having a good summer.

Working on construction machinery is always interesting, even changing the oil. Do not even think that is not again...lol

Christopher

I think you and Curtis from CEE need to do a collaboration... Just saying. Great vid Wes!

Curtis Roberts

Nice work. I imagine an old machine like that is never truly done. By the time you get everything fixed something else is worn out.
