Me too, Jerry. Old style manners. If someone I am with starts looking at their phone while I am with them, I sit quietly and look at the view until they finish. A dude started doing it while I was talking to him recently, so I stopped talking mid-sentance until he finished. :-D

I open doors for everybody, that's just me. I value the time spent with people, ringer turned down or off, some of my friends get worried if I don't dive on the phone immediately. Another version of bad manners. Cheers Jerry

I am sure that safety would have been the reason in the past here, Sylvia. But when you watch the young dudes stride in and sit themselves down at the table and pull out their smart phones and start scrolling, while the ladies are still walking in behind them... it seems that the modern thinking is not so chivalrous. :-D

Do you know Knigge? An ooold Book about the right behaviors. Back in time men were entering first too here in Germany; so they draw all the attention to them, which would have make the ladies feel uncomfortable. Just protecting the females, the book says. One way to see it.
