I have seen some foreigners try to make a "real" Christmas here.. but I don't think it is possible because nobody around us knows what that is. I settle for a compromise.. we have a Christmas tree and watch Frosty the Snowman and have presents and lunch together on the day.. but the atmosphere outside the house is just like a normal day. Their New Year's day is as close to Christmas day as it gets - all the family eating and drinking together all day.

And speaking of Christmas, how do celebrations go at ol' farmhouse, Ed? Are we gearing up more for the prolonged Western style Christmas, or the more curtailed Japanese one? (I've promised my friends that when I become as rich as Elon, I'll fly them over here on my private jet for a good ol' fashioned Canadian Christmas, and then we'll all go back to Japan for New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.) But Japanese Christmas is more akin to a Western Valentine's Day, isn't it? Is there anything for the kids in all that?
