JAPANESE BUSH WARBLER! I'm no ornithologist, nor even a hobbyist... But I know this fella when I hear him! I love this little guy! 2015. Mt. Fuji. I was on a solo trip, and hiking my way up the mountain, languishing under a pack that was filled with WAY too much stuff, when up in the clouds I decided to stop for a bit and take in the scenery. It was absolutely silent and still. In as far as I could see, and as far as I could hear, I was completely alone on the mountain -nobody in front of me, and nobody behind. Here was I, on the other side of the planet from home, hiking up a volcano, in the clouds, and completely alone. This was one of the coolest moments I can remember. And then, out of the stillness, I heard a marvelous bird-song. It was this little gent. I was lucky enough to catch him on a video I was taking at the time. I couldn't fix his location, but he was out there somewhere, and he kept me company for quite a while as I went up -at times, hand over hand- over the volcanic rock. I was cursing my stupidity at having packed so heavily, but this guy kept making that sweet sound, and it took my mind off of things. I was obsessed with finding out what kind of bird this was when he appeared in another video made by a Japanese YouTuber. I wrote to him to ask, and he replied promptly: A Japanese Bush Warbler. Boy, of all creatures to make the farmhouse his home... It's my one and only favourite birdie on the planet. Outstanding! He's really awesome to listen to. It took me less than a second to recognize his song from your video. Have a look at him online. He's quite familiar to Japanese in the countryside, apparently.
