Bamboo shoots! Love 'em! My Dad used to put them in a stir fry when I was a kid. They were canned and not fresh, as we're quite a long way off from the source. Still, as a kid I found them pretty harmless (important for a kid trying new things) but definitely crunchy and kind of fun.
