Now you've got me scratching my head... I think like most adults who've been driving for a while, if I were to walk in off the street and sit down for a driving exam, I'd most likely fail. There were some familiar situations, there. I think local custom in my city certainly dictates that we give way to the smooth flow of traffic rather than the strict right-of-way. So, we often do the "wave someone through" thing. If it's easier to let someone go rather than to try and squeeze your car past someone else's while turning, we'll go with that.
