1st: thank you for using my question (sorry Nigel that I mixed you guys up). 2nd: The closest German word for getting a job done with two men would be "pfuschen". It means to make something just work, no matter how good the outcome on a longterm is.

20+ years in to my career, senior management (director), didn't attend college- If going back/finishing school is something you can manage, do it. I got very lucky, often. For better or worse, today the baseline expectation is tertiary education for basically everything, it's not worth handicapping yourself.
