Maybe the medicine prevents his body from digesting because it was consumed with and was with the alcohol in the stomach/intestines rather then in the blood beforehand

I am a proper huge fan of liquorice, including Salmiakki (the ammonium chloride stuff). It's SO GOOD. I found some honey liquorice that is delicious too!
