I spent like 4 hours today trying to compile KiCad from scratch and it made me want to rip my ears off. I think every github project that needs to be compiled from source should include some form of docker/vagrantfile so that you can perform an entirely sandboxed compilation and execution environment, but I guess that also adds a whole new layer that people need to understand.
