As always, the Unskilled Labourer goes above and beyond what's expected of him. Very nice office. I have a PC like this one too. Old but reliable.

Yes, it's called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). It's usually used with cheaper dimmable LEDs so look for bulbs that aren't dimmable (which should be most of them). The other way to do dimming is called analog dimming and that doesn't use PWM.

Well done, that's a very clean way to set up an office! As for the LED shimmer effect you're talking about, that can come down to the quality of the unit you purchased, all of them should not do that. I love LED lighting though, converted most of my house over to it already.
