They are like poker machines, programmed to only pay out every 10 or 20 or 100 times, depending on the value. When it isn't time, those arms have no grip.

SEEEGAAA I never played those when I visited Japan, not interested in the things that were to catch, that had to fit in my luggage as well. I played it once when I lived in the UK at the seaside, first a cheap one that dropped the stuff as normal, then an expensive one (£3) that didn't!
