Sure. It is a social crutch, I think. Staring at the phone means they don't have to actually communicate with the other humans standing beside them. Robots. :-D\

I went to the Indoor Sports complex the other day and was amazed at how many parents where present whilst their child was taking swimming lessons (possibly mandatory). I was equally surprised at how "every single one of them" (no exaggeration) was looking down at their phone.
