I fail to see how it's weird for him to be a villain here, plus he's not even being a villain with his current actions. The bamboo sect under the rules of honor and morality of this xianxia world deserve the fate coming to them and his current actions are in no way murderhobo-esque. Being a villain here would be turning the people into human pill furnaces but he's just going to kill them like a normal xianxia cultivator.

All that said, I appreciate that this fight might catch the attention of more protagonists that may come into scene. I hope in the future we get a protagonist that is followed by a throng of heroines/quasi-heroines. I am interested in seeing how Jiang Chen will handle that. His villainous acts in pursuit of heroines and in thwarting protagonists are fun; his villainous acts against nobodies are not.

It was intended as a negative remark. Although I don’t blame him for the subsequent massacre, given that the sects aligned against him, I believe this early into the confrontation he should have been more mindful of human life. He as a good citizen of Earth after all. And unless his mind is being affected by his Black Fate points, I hope he doesn’t just go and become a murderhobo.
I don’t think it’s negative but he probably won’t be able to play the nice guy like he did with the first mc
