The Great Smog of 1952
🕑 Added 2021-09-28 10:16:00 +0000 UTCReading about this incident was a very strange experience. It happened long enough ago to feel like a part of history... and yet it's something that's within living memory for some of my friends and family.
I include a quote from someone who experienced the smog in the video, which I sourced from a piece by The Guardian. If you want to read a few more, you can find the whole thing here. It really gives some insight into what living through the smog was like for ordinary people.
Although I'm way too young to have lived through anything like this, this video is still a little bit personal to me. I used to live in London... but the air quality in the area where I lived was so poor that I ended up with breathing difficulties, and ultimately had to move away. It's not as dramatic as a smog, but it goes to show how much of an issue pollution still is!

This was definitely true last time I was in London... which was a few years ago, granted. I wonder if it'll be any better on my next visit.

I love London but I remember being told before I ever visited London; that if you blew your nose after a day out, it would be black. I did this and was horrified that it was true. Don't know if it's still like that, as not been in a few years now.
