The Destruction of Pompeii
🕑 Added 2022-02-15 11:15:01 +0000 UTCSomething I came across while researching this video really stuck with me. I mention briefly that obscene graffiti was found in the ruins of Pompeii. You can actually read translations of some of the more interesting scribblings here.
What really struck me about this is how similar the things people wrote back then are to the kinds of things you see written on walls today.
The Romans might have had a very different culture, and lived in a very different time to us... but things like this always serve as a reminder for me that, in the end, they were just ordinary people living lives that in some ways might have felt quite similar to our own.

The graffiti reminds me of βLife of Brianβ. John Cleese never mentioned any references to shit however. π

They really struck me as I was researching - they don't have a lot of detail, but the posture alone of some of them really tells a story.
I went to the traveling Pompeii exhibit and it was pretty interesting. The plaster casts of the dead are moving.
