The Island of the Dolls
🕑 Added 2023-05-12 10:15:01 +0000 UTCIf you happen to be in Mexico City, and want to visit the Island of the Dolls, you’ll need to hire a boat to get there. Though on a map the island looks like it’s connected to the mainland, it’s actually surrounded by canals and floating gardens.
You can rent a colourful gondola called a trajinera. Most owners are more than happy to row you out there and show you around… although there are some who refuse simply because of the various rumours and urban legends that surround the island.

I'm actually very much into escape rooms, so I've had it on my mind to cover this one for a while now. There's not much imagery around, though, so at the moment I'm looking at combining it with a history of safety in escape games around the world. It's a really interesting topic!

I had never heard of the island of the dolls until the past few weeks, when I saw another YouTube video about it... now I can't find that video so I don't know who it was.

I'd like to see a video on what I'll call the 2019 Poland Escape Room incident. It was the first known fatal accident to occur in an escape room. Five 15-year-old girl died of carbon monoxide poisoning in a fire caused by a leaky gas container inside a heater. Apparently this incident is so obscure that it doesn't even have its own dedicated Wikipedia page, just a paragraph in the "Safety" section on the page for escape rooms: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escape_room#Safety
