The Dave

Sentence has been corrected, thanks! I understand that the backslide is frustrating, but progress just isn't a linear path in the vast majority of cases. I base the teenagers I write off of the teenagers I see in my day job and viewed through that lens, the backslide holds up to me, even if I get that it's frustrating to read. The 'bright' side is that it is just a backslide. Ran will keep improving and at least where Bugsy is concerned, the only way is up from here on out.

Gotta agree with the notations about Ran's sudden huge backslide coming out of nowhere, especially when he'd been making such good progress. I would note that you've got a repetition of "motivated" that might be served with removing the first instance: "It’s a motivating thought that keeps him motivated for the rest of the day." I do like the showing of how Ran was training his mon and the fun scene with Skorupi on the ferry. Morton being Whitney's brother explains why he has a massive chip on his shoulder as well. Overall it's a decent chapter, but that backslide keeps it from being a "great" chapter in my opinion.

The Dave

Name's been corrected, thanks for the catch, beta and I both missed that! I don't quite know what you mean about the formatting though, it looks normal to me, could you please clarify?

Jon.

he’d be surprised if Walter even used to keep close track of his actually sponsored trainers. Well, with the exception of Walter, of course. The other water-specialist was always Walter’s favorite Wrong name and the formatting in the chapter is off

The Dave

Yeah, he'll get there, he is progressing, but it won't just be a straightforward affair indeed.

The Dave

Fair. It's a paranoid backslide. 3 years of building Bugsy up as a villain isn't so easily overcome, but it is 'just' a temporary backslide. It's almost a kind of "things are going too well, there has to be a catch" kind of thing. Ran does have a victim complex that unfortunately doesn't easily disappear.

Robert

The last part of the chapter doesn't really jive with me. Ran just spiraling like that seems like something he would do before he got to Goldenrod not after leaving it and learning that Bugsy gave a very a good pokemon only to immediately assume Bugsy is going out of his to "get" him.

Heraclitus

Well, no one's perfect... A bit of a leap backwards for Ran with regards to Bugsy, but whatcha gonna do? The hero's journey is never a straight path. I did really enjoy the training scene. And Skorupi is adorable as always. Thanks for the chapter.
