Yeah, this is a tough one. Really I should just be using the term "angular velocity" but that jargon can be confusing, I like to try to say something like "rotational velocity" or "rate of rotation" or "rotational speed" instead... If you had a ball on a string spinning around your head, you don't say it's orbiting, you say it's rotating/spinning, so we have a bit more flexibility if we think if planets like regular objects.

Yeah, I have a small footnote at 2:17 acknowledging that

I know in this case it is true they are the same by tidal locking but for the more general case...

I'm not understanding the statement at 2:13 -- I think I get what you are trying to show but I believe what's stated is in conflict with Kepler's IIId law.

Would love to have 'orbit' when referring to the bulk motion of the Moon and to reserve 'rotation' for 'spin'

Nicely done! And thank you for the wikipedia gif. You are a class act, sir! Glad to support you, your videos are definitely some of the best out there.

I made it custom for the video (it's computer visual effects) so I could have the earth rotating in it, but it's inspired by this real satellite view: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:July_2,_2019_Total_Solar_Eclipse_from_GOES-East.gif

Gah!! An editing glitch that wasn't there when I checked but then I had to reupload for some other tiny change. :/

Is the picture at 3:25 a real video (from a satellite or something)? If not, do we have a video of an eclipse from space?

Patrick W. Gilmore

Why does the page go blank / white for a couple seconds at ~1:43?

Patrick W. Gilmore

It's almost like planetary motions are confusing sometimes
