WHOOOOOO, I don’t know if anyone has revisited this video as the trial has wound on, but holy cow, Matt may have to amend the video with the new material that has been released. Holy crap. Such a saga. And it’s quite sad. I really do hope they both get the help they need.

interesting how much more info has come out in just the past week. Honestly its not looking good for Amber, she seems to clearly be the source of violence and aggression. She should pay the price for attempting to ruin Johnny, 100% of it in bad faith. Any audio or video that was meant to "hurt" Johnny have actually just backfired and proved that he may have struggled with addiction but was never violent to her, and on the contrary - SHE was - and VERY often. Amber really betrayed all of her people and the people who originally supported her. Absolutely reprehensible.

I think they are as bad as each other. I don't really believe any of them but I am more inclined to believe Depp. This has parallels to Melissa Beniot who got hit in the eye by an iphone and ripped her iris. She then went on jimmy fallon explaining it. I don't believe Heard got hit by a bottle else she should be swallon an a nurse should be able to see it. Benoist was swallen an iris cut with just an iphone .

I didn’t know anything about their situation before watching, and now that I’m done, I feel like I understand less. All I know is I feel sad now. Hearing Johnny talk like that made me sick, because I’ve been in that place and said similar things. I’m many years sober now. But I can understand and know full well that damaged people attract damaged people and the result is a lot of pain and no one to blame. I hope they both get the help they need.

I watched that last couple minutes a few times. I gather what you're saying is that for all the attention this whole relationship gets in the media, what's being overlooked is that strip away the fame and fortune and they're really just a white trash couple bickering over split hairs in a double-wide and, in Eminem's words, seeing who can out-petty who. In short, whatever newsworthiness the case once held has long ago cashed out and it's time to move on. Right, kinda?

Ahhh like I said in the last update totally worth the wait. I got so excited when I saw this i refused to watch it till tonight so I could hear the whole thing full stop uninterrupted. You're the king of these documented tales. Also good on you for showing the doubt on both sides when people started openly defending Johnny I started to assume he was probably in the right and having completely crazy accusations throw at him but seeing both sides first their marriage was garbage and second fuck I can't really stand in either camp now.

Early on there was an idea of having an explainer on reciprocal domestic violence and how it's a lot more common than some might think - with a disclosure that that's not necessarily what the video was saying this case was, but that it was a possibility worth thinking about. I scrapped the idea because even with the disclaimer, I too felt like that really might not be *on point* with this particular case.

Great Work! Im awaiting episode 5 of the podcast excitedly although I wish you told me exactly what to conclude in this case since they both seem rather horrible people. Although I imagine when sober Depp is not so horrible. What do I know though?

Your videos always offer such level-headed thinking and methodical, unbiased analysis, but for me their hallmark is the denouement (esp. in Watts, Bain, Melgar, Tessier). That this one is absent such an ending was the only disappointment. Thank you for the great work.

Matt, this was incredible. I am impressed with the amount of research and with your impartiality. I have seen all of your videos but this is only the second case you covered that I am familiar with in great detail (the first one was Daniel Holtzclaw). I think this case is interesting not because it involves two celebrities, but because there is a lot of evidence publicly available – which wouldn’t be the case in the average Jane or Joe. So it can be a good case study of domestic violence. And I don’t think this is one of those cases where the truth is somewhere in between of what each party alleges AT ALL. Personally I have made up my mind on who the victim and who the abuser is. Credibility will be a key issue. Let’s see where this goes.
