The opening of this video has been a blight on my life. When I'm at work sorting through court documents and finally hitting gold, all I want to say is "we have CRIME!!!" but not a single goddamn person will ever get it, and it's hard to get somebody to watch the first 3-ish minutes of a video when all they see is 51:37. That outburst has lived with me since the day this video came out and if I'm murdered, I hope it'll be the last thing I say on this planet.

Here’s to hoping you see this comment Matt. I don’t like to offer recommendations to content creators, however I think I’ve got a case with enough intrigue and confusion to make another unsettling video. It’s the case of the disappearance of DeOrr Kunz. Baffling, infuriating, sad, and not well known.

Josh Evans

Ok! Thanks for replying!

Matt Orchard

Probably still a week til Patreon premiere. It’s called The Memory Wars

Josh Evans

Any updates Matt?

Matt Orchard

Kia ora Anita, glad you enjoyed it!

Anita Loots

I loved this, I’m a fellow kiwi and lived in Dunedin for many years. Thank you for all your effort and work Matt I look forward to your videos just as much as JCS ones ❤️

Matt Orchard

Welcome aboard Katherine, glad you enjoyed it! I personally think Martin van Beynen makes a very devastating case and only found I had a few tiny disagreements with him, so I'm glad you're checking out his book!

Katherine Villarreal

This 'one' being the case!!! Your video was great as always :) Became a Patreon just to see this early lol

Katherine Villarreal

This one was really strange, I'm still not convinced either way. I'm buying that book

srahhh

The cheering was ghoulish

Matt Orchard

Cheers, glad you enjoyed it!

I love the comic relief sprinkled in here, and also appreciate the (albeit satirical) factoids about NZ.

Tim Proffitt

"on account of the f*cking house being burned down"

Cosmo Reverb

@02:20 "Doesn't give my opponents much time to run up to an election, does it?" That gave me real Airplane! vibes. "No, that's exactly what they'll expect."

Matthew (Zei)

If you’re ever in Queensland let me know, I’ll shout you a nice dinner and drinks :D

Matt Orchard

My accent isn't that thUck IMO. Some people disagree. I personally don't think urban Ausies and Kiwi's sound that different for the most part.

Matthew (Zei)

I had no idea you were a kiwi. I thought you were just American with a weird accent. Maybe your accent is a little too close to ours in Australia. Maybe if I heard you say “fish and chips”, it would’ve given it away.

Matt Orchard

Haha thanks! I’m really proud of the intro. There’s a bit more on kiwi culture and psyche in the middle;)

tucker brett

not far into it and already— matt, i gotta hear more zealand trivia mate this is fantastic lol

trintdaddylandis

wow. what an amazing story told in a masterful way. congratulations, matt. this is world class.

Clark Canfield

Anyone else think the opening song was “Wasting my time” by Default?

Sonne

Exactly, you got that right! As a Dane+Scandinavian it actually makes me feel even safer to know that we forgive people for their mistakes (even if it's something as horrific as murder!) but as you said, we do have our limits to forgiveness, for an example, Breivik. If you ever feel like analyzing the topic of how the different cultures deal with punishment, I'd watch in a heartbeat :)

Matt Orchard

Interesting. Yeah, I know NZ isn't the only country that doesn't have the "throw away the key" mentality baked in to the system. I believe Norway have a similar system to what you just described (makes sense, Scandinavia), which I heard about in relation to Anders Breivik getting 21 years. Obviously doesn't seem like near enough but like Denmark, they have an absolute, no exceptions maximum for what they can doll out before parole is on the table. Like you alluded to though, Breivik will never ACTUALLY get out, so it's much the muchness in cases like that anyway.

trintdaddylandis

my man! ive been waiting on this since you dropped the last one. great work!

ReSearcher

Wow Matt!! This one grabbed my attention and had me on the edge of my seat. You’re a fantastic storyteller. Thank you for this video. 👍🏼👍🏼

Sonne

Great one. I love how you're always switching the perspective in your videos. It keeps them very captivating and nuanced to me as a viewer. A small fact: in Denmark it's impossible to get convicted to any sentence without the possibility of parole. Even people who most likely will never get out in society again will have the right to parole every 2 years, when 12 years have been served.

Sick Boy

Given the call and situation, that is one laaaid back operator. Hahaha, you addressed it as I was typing. 😆 That impression was 😙👌

Sick Boy

Wooo, I sooo look forward to these. Cheers Matt! 🤘😁🍻

John
