Thanks man!!! It was a TOTAL EXPERIMENT! I’m glad it came out so well. I agree, that nylon steel combination adds such warm lows and crisp highs!

Rob Scallon

Yea I just saw it! And it sounds fantastic! The combination of nylon and steel strings make for such a lovely sound. Resonates great too.

Michael madden

Pretty stellar to be honest, it was a total experiment. I couldn’t really find set plans for what I wanted. I made the body in the shape of an A mando for comfort, like you said those corners are raw! I wouldn’t use back side tuners again if I made another though. It’s sounds great! There’s a video on my profile thing here but I’m new so I have no idea if you can see it

Rob Scallon

Woah, That is so cool to hear! How's it holding up?

Michael madden

I had no idea this thing existed until about 6 months ago after seeing the first balalaika jam and wow did I fall in love! It actually drove me to go make one of my own in my shop! Super cool sound!

Andrew

Yeah it looked awesome !

Rob Scallon

Hey thanks Todd! Yea, it's funny how this instrument given the right angle through the fisheye lens simply just look like an 80's pointy guitar. A rare flightless V

Todd Bryanton

Nice :) Really love the section from 1:40 onwards, very haunting. Reminds me a bit of Animals as Leaders. The balalaika looks like if a flying V became a triangle and forgot how to fly, and now can only mourn its flightless state

Rob Scallon

if I had to pick an instrument to use in battle...

Olivia De Koster

Great job!! Very pointy!

Ilya Kutsev

I agree, but maybe for solo or as back melody track in may be interesting to use delay/cry-baby/phaser with balalaika. Or it just will look cool :))

Rob Scallon

Thanks! and not sure, I think for these "??? Metal" videos, it's probably best to keep the main instrument just straightforward and acoustic

Rob Scallon

haha thanks! and we just wanted something to have in the foreground and happen to have some bikes in the garage. I think it really worked out

Ilya Kutsev

amaaaazing job, man! what you think about adding phaser of flanger to that sound, huh?

Daren Robertson

They sound similar to an upright bass, except that they have frets, very visually striking though.

Andrew

This was amazing man! The harmony lead stuff sounded so good. Did u have to cycle to the location haha! Looked awesome !

Rob Scallon

Would absolutely love to do a video with one of the giant contrabass balalaika's I wonder how much different they sound to an upright bass or acoustic bass.

Rob Scallon

Thank you!

Hiran Patel

Beautiful :)

Daren Robertson

Triangle metal! If you've never seen the red elvises, you should definitely check them out. One of the best surf rock bands out there, and probably the only one with a giant red balalaika.
