One of the people behind the camera asked us about that the day off, why we didn't start with lyrics... Both andrew and I agreed that neither of us would be able to do that. Starting with the words and then then building the melody sounds impossible to me. as well as starting with the melody, I need that bed of chords to build from first. I'm sure other people work differently but I've maybe once written a melody first

re: getting around the composing issue, why not start with the melody and lyrics first, then build the guitar/bass/drums around that? Then you have a song "already written" (that day) that you can build on a lot faster than writing a groove first and then trying to write lyrics at the end.
