Late to the party in posting, I saw it when it first came out and loved every bit of it. Hearing Rain in the Catheral had to have been a sobering experience. Listening with headphones it had effectively moved me to tears.

much thanks! yea I really wish we had more time to throw more songs into it was done a bit haphazardly but I'm happy with what we got so glad we threw queen in there :)

Just watched it now. Very impressive what you can get out of the pipe organ using MIDI. Despite the limitations when recording in that large space, it still sounded epic on my mixing headphones. Great selection of songs. The Mario one made me laugh and the ending was just awesome.

1) totally, and if we were to do it again I think it would have been great to take a route like that. But we just didn't consider it at the time and Rob just had a pair of stereo mics. I also think that in order for that to work people would need to have a surround sound system in place to really get the full effect and that's not something that youtube covers or really is ever used by people watching youtube. 2) and this wa atually the original plan! I had a few original songs to throw in there and release an ep at the end of the video. Though, once we starting working we realized there's just WAY too much nuance to doing this for that to work that day. We'd have to spend hours on every song figuring out the stops and how to record it all and blah blah blah it just isn't possible without renting out that building for at lezst a ffull day. and that's just not possible

So two thoughts: 1) How about getting a HRTF microphone to record the organ? It may still be difficult to fully represent it's sonic power but could help translate the spread/directionality of the organ spread throughout the building. Another thought would be a surround sound microphone, but I think a HRTF mic may be better so people can potentially hear the effect with normal headphone, rather than needing a surround sound system. 2) Following on from the above idea, once you've decided a way to record, how about an album or at least EP of essentially organ covers of some of your songs?!
