New NJB: The "Correct" Speed Limit

I can't remember ever mentioning that in a video, except maybe as an aside that at least potholes might slow down drivers. Maybe Build The Lanes has something about this?

I can’t remember which video it was (probably a year or more ago), but almost as an aside, you mentioned the relationship between speed and road degradation (potholes, etc.) I was wondering if you had links for this discussion. I presume that the same relationship could be made between speed and car wear and tear. I’ve tried to google this, but the closest thing was someone asking what I’m asking here and being shot down by some engineers who (in my very inexpert opinion) seem to be too wedded to ideal models. In any event, keep this good stuff coming.

You need to convert the speeds to good ol’ American Miles Per Hour. I want my community to know that in Amsterdam, a city with 2.5 million people, their speed limit is a mere 18mph. Then, maybe people won’t gripe so much when we advocate slowing the speed limit from 30 and 35mph through our town to 25mph. For those who live in the rest of the world, 25mph is about 40 Km/h. Where I live, we only drive that slowly in school zones and only when children are going in and out of schools. Otherwise, the standard speed limit where I live is 35mph which is about 55 Km/h.
