Tutorial 155: Line Wipes
🕑 Added 2018-12-21 01:45:48 +0000 UTCHi guys, we swapped around the order of our tutorials this week to accommodate for some stuff that's going on. So this tutorial is a little later than it would be, but you'll have next week's tutorial in the next few days.
This week, I show you how to link two wipes together so that you can leave a gap between them that can be treated for interesting effects. You can use the line to recolor an edge of text as it wipes on. You can use it to matte glows, blurs, or anything. Combine it with displacement to rough up the edge. There's a ton that can be done with this effect. This tutorial just shows you the basic idea. It's up to you to exploit it.

It's an interesting one. It also works well with CC Block Load if you set it to not start cleared. That's around when I started to use AE too! :)

I'm not super comfortable with expressions, but this one is actually pretty simple once you figure out what's going on with it. I've used AE for over 15 years now. Have never used the Line Sweep effect.

No worries! If you have a specific question, feel free to ask! This is just expression controls linked to Line Sweep/Linear Wipe effects. The top two parts of the main expression are just pickwhipped to two Slider Controls. And thanks for your support!

I'm new here so just asking... I like the brief overview tutorial, but do you do a more step by step tutorial on how everything is created?
