The Road to Dallas Chapter 2: David Atlee Phillips, the Spy's Spy

Today I introduce Phillips, his early career, what brought him to Havana and some of his more dubious assignments before his second tour in Cuba during the early days of the Castro Government. I show why Phillips is the archetypal CIA officer, or as I call him, a spy's spy.

Yes id be interested in looking into the RFK assassination later… admittedly I’m not as well versed in the topic but I’ve also heard that it’s a much more open and shut case regarding Sirhan being a clear patsy

My friend I have absolutely loved your whole Channel and these series the care, time, and detailed nuance you fill your videos with is amazing just wanted to give you a shout out since I just joined. One easy question I have that kinda is a furtherance to this series have you thought about doing the potential sequel of the road to Dallas with the road to the ambassador hotel and RFKs assassination I can only imagine potential parallels with people, groups, and spooks involved with JFKs death overlapping with RFK.

I do remember reading that he was contacted by cia while in Havana - wasn’t he involved in Watergate or am I mistaken? I do know a few of the Watergate burglars were recruited in Havana in 1959/60

These videos are awesome but you should also do some that aren’t so pro communist it seems like your really have a rose colored vision of communism and really dig deep on the underbellies of the west but really have a shallow understanding of how dark the communist regimes were as well, it’s great content but really biase d when it comes to understanding the whole picture of the Cold War maybe your next series can touch on some of those underbellies as well

I’m not sure tbh… I’ve wondered the same with regards to guys like Lee Harvey Oswald and John Wilkes Booth for example. I have some vague theories but nothing too concrete

Another terrific installment. I’d never heard of Phillips being stationed in Lebanon. That is a very juicy tidbit that connects a lot of dots. Cannot wait for the full dish on canon, that guy seems to be a ghost, which inclines me to think he was a major player in the jfka. Can’t wait for part 3!!

It interesting that Canon was at Fort Hood, since it is situated in the same area where GHW Bush also got his start with the CIA by setting up his Arbusto oil company. It would be interesting to find out if Canon and Bush were familiar with each other and whether they worked together or separately, but in tandem with the same goal of promoting the CIA’s interests in Latin America and the Middle East.
