Dont know if I am still on time but here it goes: Jake, how can we judge from a third perspective our own work? A lot of times I think that my improvisations are not what I want but my professor says that it sounds good. How to be able to abandon this critique mind and enjoy our "work"? Do you ever feel like that? cheers man! Rock on!
So my process is I most often start with some lyrics and I always have a melody that goes off in my head. I'll play the melody on guitar or keyboards. But then I need to arrange it. So I'll often look at the notes in a measure (or a half measure) and conditionally try a chord that contains the notes of the melody. These end up with some pretty basic progressions, however, which I can then tweak with some color tones or bass line movements. What other methods would you suggest for coming up with an arrangement? (I'll probably be tied up at work instead of on the live stream, but will listen afterward.) Thanks!
