If you want to play modal (all seven notes) you will have to be careful when the V comes in. The 5, 7, and 2 intervals are your chord tones. So when you play the 1 or 3 the sound gets weak because you are creating a dissonant sound. This is when some say play the mixalydian scale. but it does not work for me because the 1 and 3 are in that scale. To me they sound like crap over the V chord. There are certainly a lot better lead players than me. I hope that helps

I have the same issues Bryan. It is my understanding of that progression you referring to it is very straight forward. So playing pentatonic licks will always sound nice and safe. Start with a lot of major then switch to minor, finish on major landing on a big C note will let the band know you are finished (look at them also.)
