If we use all the presets (synths, drums, guitar modeling, etc.), audio loops, and MIDI clips that are easily available these days, doesn't that mean our music could end up sounding... ...LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE'S? Hi Jake, Thanks for being such a phenomenal, generous educator. Your videos and Rhythm course have transformed my musicianship, and my life! I appreciate your hard work, honesty, sense of humor, and commitment to exceptional teaching - many thanks! On that note, I am interested in becoming an educator myself. I have for YEARS now been "preparing" to teach private guitar and piano lessons. I've been plagued by severe anxiety regarding the whole venture. I have played guitar and piano for well over 15 years (I attended a jazz guitar program at a university for 3 years but did not graduate). Yet I continue to feel like I don't play well enough to inspire students. In your opinion, how necessary is it to play well in order to teach well? Part of the problem may be that my background on guitar and piano is all over the place, and I am no expert in any "one" genre/style. This also makes it difficult for me to know how to market myself to students. I probably know more jazz than most genres, but jazz is rather a niche thing on the guitar especially and not a lot of beginners seem to be too keen on learning it (unless I'm mistaken?). In your view, as a guitarist - what are the most essential things I should know how to play/demonstrate in order to teach beginner/intermediate students? Apologies for my wordiness and if this is too broad a question. I'd appreciate any input you have - thank you!
