I might be too late for this question, but.... In terms of plugins, I don't quite understand the difference between Amps, Pre-Amps, Channel Strips, Riders / Levelers, Compressors, Limiters, etc. It seems like there is a huge amount of overlap in what functions these things are doing. I have similar confusion when I think of running an amp simulator into a distortion plugin, etc etc etc. I have no idea which of these things are essential, versus what's redundant or even just pointless. Thanks!
Any tips for creating melodies? I have an awesome chord progression that I turned into a sonically pleasing song. I'm stuck on the melody. how do I take these awesome chords and pluck melodies out of them? I'm in my comfortable zone of playing block chords. while they are nice and using jazzy tones like the 9th, 11th, & 13th, i want to make melodies that express the sound of the chords without having to play them all together for each chord change.
