Tremendously entertaining and inspiring video! Especially since I struggle to get going with my own creative work. This gives me the template for how to go about it. One question: how long time did it take from idea and first steps to finish for each of the songs?

This was a fantastic lesson, thank you Jake!! It's definitely my favourite composing technique, building off one specific interesting motif or idea. I tried it with a looping 5-note rhythm, for this piece I did for my game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNpVVk3BAZw As a non-guitar player, seeing your instrumentation choices and ESPECIALLY seeing how you bring in different bass/guitar techniques is really useful to me. It also helps me understand why making music for a rhythm game somehow always helped me write better songs in general, because i actively try to reuse motifs so that the players can play along more easily.
