Just Be Yourself. What's really behind this dating advice?
🕑 Added 2019-09-03 05:19:32 +0000 UTCI'm just editing up some footage from some street interviews and the topic of 'Just Be Yourself' came up. This is the standard dating advice women give to men but what does it exactly mean?
Initially it sounds sweet and supportive. It sounds like she is saying you're fine the way you are and don't need to change your personality to attract a girlfriend.
However, one of the women interviewed, actually revealed the truth behind this saying. She explained that women want men to be themselves so they can protect against being fooled by a false personality. I can't blame them, it's self protection. However, my question is why this is the first thing that comes to mind, their own self interest, when they are meant to be offering advice to a male friend.

Can you imagine the blowback if men told women to "stop wearing cosmetics and form-altering clothes" and "just be themselves"?
Conaider this. If your words are correct then the following can be concluded. For not confident and unattractive people it is a better strategy to not 'be themselves', whatever that means. The advice shall be adjusted for a particular person to be beneficial.

Being ‘yourself’ or whatever that means is still pretty good advice, despite the alterior motive attached to it at times. Confident and attractive people don’t need to change themselves for other people, they are who they are, like them or not. They have resolve in themselves and who they are. That is an attractive behavior.
On the other hand, not everyone have born with the natural abilities to easily and effortlessly connect and bond with women. Shall being themselves mean that they don't even try to be funny and easygoing with women? I think this is a balancing act of being authentic and still acting just a little (or more :) ) to present the best, the intelligent, the agile, the assertive, the nonchalant version of myself.
Still girls wanna have fun and they love being seduced. Well , being seductive can come from the core of who I am or it can be pretended or somewhere between. What is the true me then? Shall I be responsible for the consequences of my bravado? I believe as long as I don't cross an obvious line, I should be free to pretend for the sake of the game. Does she really care about who I really am? She is free to use her eyes and brain to discover the authentic me.
I m relieved after following this channel. It made me realize it is quite a pressure if I always want to act like a super alfa guy. A bit like national geographic, there s always a stronger specimen somewhere compared to whom you re doomed to be beta. Some think I am beta? So wtf

If I would be a woman and a sensitive guy s acting all macho, that would be the worst case scenario probably. Women see through our acts very easily if we re not being authentic.
